Chinese army has more:
1. More Men
2. More hand arms
3. More infantry weapons
4. A larger conventional army
Chinese army has less:
1. Less Technical sophistication all around
2. Less Fire power in the form of Bombs, Warheads
3. Less Missiles - conventional and nuclear both
4. Less Aircarfts - lesser quality also - chinese aircrafts are based on vintage Russians.
5. Lesser Navy in every respect.
6. Lesser armored weaponary
7. Less number of rockets and related war capabilities.
8. Less men available for deployment over the world as it has border issues with Russia and India among others which themselves are quite capable militarilily. It has issues with a number of other neighbors also.
9. Less amount being spent on military- much less in comparison to US.
10. Less research and development - So far Chinese R&D has been mostly, I repeat mostly, the adaptation of Russian designs.
11. Less capability due to its being decades behind US technologically.
12. Less strategic partners like NATO etc. around the globe.
13. Less diversity - it is a fact that diversity help attracts the best telent of the world, which at the moment is US. Chinese army is predominantly chinese with very little chances that some best - say - German or British or Israeli scientists will be working for advance of science and technology in China.
The bottom line is - China is growing, growing very fast, has every sign of becoming economic super powerhouse sooner rather than later, and it is a fact that military might follows the economic growth. But it is well behind US which is also growing (not shrinking) and it has to actively compete with two neighbors namely Russia and India which are not minions in any respect, in comparison to China. So, atleast for the foreseeable future China is not going to surpass US militarily. In the distant future --- who knows ?

Technically all Chinese are soldiers. That's why it's called the People's Liberation Army. It has a standing army of about 1 million. It's unknown how many Chinese soldiers are actually loyal to the Chinese government. The government does try to have them on a tight leash, so it's expected they are not that loyal.
China's offical military budget is $40 billion a year, but even if it's $100 billion, it will still be just one fourth of what the U.S. spends.
Much of their upgrades have been from outside sources such as Russia , Europe and Israel. They are just starting to build their own military equipment. It's expected that they will have a stealth fighter by 2020, but because of cost the amount of these fighters they can afford is unknown. China does plan to downsize their airforce from about 5,000 aging aircraft (including bi-planes and hold overs from WWII) to about 2,000 aircraft including new fighter jets and helicopters.
China's army is very defensive although it can swamp it's neighbors, it can't go out and attack an African country for example.
A lot of their ground vehicals are very old and again lack the infrastructure to keep them going outside their boarders.

The chinese army is larger, but it does not surpass the u.s. military in might.
We are more technological and have better tactics.
We beat the chinese in korea in the 1950's.

Fact, . . . . They boast a 100 million man army and make it known to all.
That's the largest army ever assembled in history. So they are prepared for land battles. However they lack a great air, and navel battleships.
But for land, they believe that they are unstoppable due to the large volume of men.
However, they are not considering the A-Bomb.
So there u R. !

No.
The Chinese may have a lot of people enlisted in their army, but in a war, they would be mowed down by the vastly superior and efficient killing weapons of the West. They have more men, which only means they will have that many more casualties.

With 100 million in the military they would control any war waged against them on their continent. Just like we can't control the militants in Iraq they would not be able to control a waged war in another continent. They would suffer significant casualties but they have enough in reserve to outman any army

It has more men, but is much less capable. It's probably 30-40 years behind the US in technology.
