It seems to be a common misconception that the only reason service members go to college is to aid them in a career outside of the military. Does anyone realize that the military has more jobs than grunt and hole digger? And even if you want to excell beyond the rank of Private in those jobs you better be working on your college degree.
You know, the military has journalists, graphic artists, environmental scientists, researchers, even veternarian technicians, all enlisted. You think you can get these jobs without college?

I have spoken to some people that have used the GI Bill for school and have also pocketed some of the cash instead of using it all to pay for school. Does anyone on here know of ways to keep some legal ways to keep GI Bill money instead of using it all to pay for schooling

I want infantry, I'm in decent shape got an 85 on the afqt, gt of 121. I'm primarily interested in marine’s infantry (everything but mortar) army’s infantry and special forces/ranger, as well as the navy seals. I understand that Special Forces and seals are very difficult so I was thinking of either starting in army infantry with the rip and airborne option or marine infantryman (hopefully going force recon). I don’t know which to go with? What is the difference between the two? Who is involved with more combat? (I'm interested in ground combat)

p.s. I know I'm not Rambo!

"Firebombing and sinking an American ship at the Guantanamo Bay American military base—reminiscent of the USS Maine incident at Havana in 1898, which started the Spanish-American War—or destroy American aircraft and blame it on Cuban forces. (The document's first suggestion regarding the sinking of a U.S. ship is to blow up a manned ship and hence would result in U.S. Navy members being killed, with a secondary suggestion of possibly using an unmanned ship and fake funerals instead.)"

WOW...so even though this plan never came fruition, they still had plans to attack our own people to justify a war. Hmmm... could this have happened to justify other wars?

Is it a decent idea to enlist in the Coast Guard vs the Marines because of family? If your in good shape and could handle the Marines, but decide to go w/ the Coast Guard because you wouldnt want to leave your fiance, will be wife, for a year at a time/over big holidays while your deployed; is it a good/bad decision to go w/ the CG over the Corps?

I was just watching MTV
it said that the soldiers are running low and they need more
and that the government is thinking of instating another draft for anyone (male and female) from 18-40 yrs old for the next five years
at one point I was think of going into the army but now I have new aspirations
I am one of the kids that will be turning 18 in the next five years and if this draft actually occurs I could go off to war, before even going to college
I realize it would be an honor to stand next to others and defend our country againt terror but do you think that it a good idea or not?

When ever the topic of me joining the military comes up in conversation with someone I know or even a stranger, most of the time they ask me why I would make that decision. When I tell them for the educational opportunities, the structure, the experience, motivation, money, etc...they say I can get all that without joining. Then they say that i'm going to end up fighting in Iraq. Then I say that i'm going over there to fight them over there so you can be safe here. Then the conversation dies...I think it's cause they can't think of anything else to say after that. I want to get my point across, but I don't want to kill the conversation...how do i respond properly (without killing the conversation) to people who disagree with joining the military?

We should be ashamed. When our government sends our military men and women to war, we enter into a covenant to provide care for the injured and protection for those in harm's way. Our soldiers have been sent into a war we cannot win with insufficient equipment; and now, when they return wounded in the line of duty, our government has failed to provide the quality care our service people deserve. Our government has broken the covenant, and shamefully failed our troops.

I am tired of being ashamed of the failings of this Administration. Our veterans need help now. I will not wait for this Administration to do right thing. I will not wait for Congress to hold their hearings and assess blame. I am taking action.

And I am asking you to do the same.
Sincerely,
Bill Richardson and me: Angeleyes.

I have been studying a lot about the Spartans and wonder how well the U.S Military or any military would be like if they raise there soldiers like the Spartans, and provide the weapons TODAY; could you imagine, the would be non stoppable. What do you think?
