Well snothead, I retired from the Corps after 25 years and I got some scoop for you. You need a different attitude than the one you sound like you have. If you think you are going to slide through 20 years in the Corps without getting off your dead a*** and doing something, you got another think coming. Even if you are selected to become an officer, you will have be reviewed every so often to see if you are performing your duties up tp the corps standards. You can take Basket Weaving if you want, you still ain't going to become an officer unless you have the right stuff. I have seen many wannabes go by the wayside because thier candy a***s couldn't keep up with the demands of the Corps. So, get a different mind set and do your best in college. Maybe the Corps will accept you. And I know of what I speak. I trained s***theads to become officers at OCS, Quantico, Va.

Retired CWO from the Marine Corps.

Uh, they make you get a degree to be an officer because you need a degree to do an officer's job. I'm not saying this to be mean, but its comments like that that give the Marines a reputation of being dumb. Why do you perpetuate that? All the poor smart Marines are being held back by you.
Why do you want to be an officer anyhow? Sure, we need officers, but if education isn't your thing, are you really going to be happy doing paper work for the rest of your life? Officers lead from a desk in the back, not from the front. It sounds like you'd be happier in an action sort of job, not a prestige sort of job. Of course, these days if you want to get higher than E-5 enlisted you need a degree too. Old infantry guys got away with it but a young one isn't likely to.
Good luck!

How about Home Economics? Simple and safe.
My Marine Corps doesn't want some get by the ez route slouch. I was an artillery trainer at Quantico, in the 60s...
I saw a lot of wash outs that had a better attitude than you do.
I would say, stay at home, get home schooled and help Mommy for the rest of your life. The Marines want Good Men.

If you won't bust your balls for yourself, you certainly won't bust them for your fellow Marines or Corps. Garbage man is a good option for you

Wow, The Corps ain't for you kid. Do us all a favor and become a traffic cop or something. The Marines is for the elite, the proudest, smartest, and most ambitious our country has to offer. You would do your command and your country a disservice to take the easy route.

Try majoring in mathematics and a foreign language, or try engineering. They are real degrees that would help you even if you can't live your dream of sponging off real hero's pensions.

well, just any odl degree won;t cut it. the military wants Hard science degrees like Engineering to be comepetive. WHICH degree you have, as well as other factors like GPA will help boost your chances( or ruin themn) for Comissioning. If Givemnthe option between a 3.0 in Engineering and a 4.0 in Liberal Arts.. they will choose thw Engineering degree.

going for the easy degree is a sure fire way to NOT get picked up.

I'm not sure if that is the right attitude but I'm sure you're intentions are good, I plan on being a career soldier myself. I would say take a major that will help you're job in the military if you want infantry try criminal justice the weapons training might come in handy.

I hope that the Marines bust your butt so you forget about taking the easy way out. Step up to the plate and act like a man.

political science. sure it sounds dry, but a lot of the stuff you learn is actually interesting and may help you in you carreer in the marines.

however, you should pick a major that you are interested in just in case the corps doesn't work out for you, its good to have something to fall back on.

Officers in the Marines never look for the easy way. Semper fi. Why don't you work in a flower shop or something?

Well, I don't know if I would call the Marines elite, but, whatever.

The fact is that the ROTC's have certain limitations on students from certain majors. I had to get permission to change mine while I was on scholarship.
