I probably wasnt very clear. I plan on doing a term in either marines or army in infantry but plan on joining special forces, recon, or seals (the seal challenge program after I have served)

well, you could do marines for 4years then after your discharge join the navy and go through the seals training. You have to be in the navy to do the seals training.

To be a SEAL, you must be in the NAVY. Not the Marine Corps, or the Army, or the Coast Guard - the NAVY. Only. Your best bet is to join the Navy now, and take the SEAL Challenge now. That way, you don't have any preconceived "that's how we did it in the Corps" BS to overcome. You won't be sidetracked by any injuries you may incur in another service. You will be taught the SEAL way (the right way, the only way) from the very get-go. The SEALs will teach you all you need to know about infantry. Don't make the Navy untrain you so that you can be trained. If you really want to be a SEAL, go see the recruiter with the big blue NAVY in the window, and don't waste your time with the others.

You can not be in the SEALS unless you go to BUD/S. Only Sailors can go to BUD/S. You need to be in excellent physical condition before taking the physical. BUD/S is not the place to try and get into shape.

Any Sailor who is physically qualified and has high enough test scores has a chance at being accepted into BUD/S. Look here, http://www.sealchallenge.navy.mil/seal/

There is one exception. If you join the Navy and end up in the nuclear power program, you will not be released for SEAL school. The only way to get of the Naval Nuclear Power Program is to fail out of it, or leave the Navy. But then you have to convince the school that you are not a dirtbag, and then convince the SEAL evaluators that you are not too stupid to be a SEAL. Where I was in the Navy, there was a saying, "Nukes need not apply."

Let me think for a minute. You want to know what training would benefit you most for becoming a NAVY seal.

A NAVY seal?

Boy that's a tough one. You want to be a NAVY seal?

Hmmm! Try the Infantry in the Army, you obviously don't have the intelligence required to be a NAVY seal.

Sorry confused! I just couldn't help being a smartass with that question. Really though, nothing else will help you to be a NAVY seal other than being in the Navy. Get the basics of the Navy and move on from there.

I would suggest that you talk to your Naval recruiter. You can become a Navy SEAL from either the Navy or Marines. If you join the Marines, you may be more physically and mentally prepared. Army has special forces, Marines have recon, but if you want the ultimate challange, become a SEAL.

Marines is the toughest and will get you the best prepared. I guess you know you have to finish your term before you can join the Navy to become a SEAL. I recommend you try some scuba on your own, I was amazed to watch some of those guys in training have no clue and panic in a pool.

I will say this to you..YOU HAD BETTER BE ONE TOUGH, BAD S O B.. because there are no such things as average guys in the SEALS... I hope you can make it, but if you are not in the very best of shape before you join.. then I suggest that you put a good amount of time in the gym, so that you will have a head start.. they will bust your behind from the gitgo.. just being a Marine is tough enough.. but a Seal?..bud you better bring your A game.. good luck

If you come in from another branch, you may have to go through basic training and start from scratch. If you want to be a Seal, sign up for the NAVY.

The Marine Corps is going to at least get you familiar with the Navy's way of life. You'll learn their rank structure and have a good chance of being deployed on a ship. Not just that but You can get similar training, I was in a boat company and did training in Coronado CA (where the SeALs train.)

Join the Marines, my husband is a Recon Marine and that would be your best bet if you were also interested in becoming a SEAL. Training to become Recon Marine is very intense, but if you get through it, it will definitely help you in the future to go through BUDS.
