I'm for it, and I agree we should be there. The new plan is showing results, so lets' give it a chance to work. The people of Iraq are worth it and the stability in the middle east will bring us all peace of mind in the end.

As an ex soldier (after serving in Northern Ireland), I was against the war. I thought that the arguments made for the war, were not sound. And, at worse, if no firm plan for the peace, then we'd end up with a situation a lot more horrific than Northern Ireland.
Now that we are in there, I am 100% behind our soldiers (not our politicians).
But, I can see no way of pulling out, yet. If we do and Iraq collapses into all out civil war, then the eyes of the Eastern world will look at us with contempt.
We will have no way of knowing what is being thought there.

And it's a tough question. I wish we weren't there, but we are and for me the question is how do we get out of this situation without leaving Iraq in total disarray.

What people need to remember is a government takes time to establish. Remember the number of years it took to rebuild Germany after WW2. We have a similar situation now.

I don't know if it would be fair to just walk away from the situation, likewise I don't think we need to be putting our people in harms way.

Right now it feels like we're in the middle of their various factions and we're the easiest target. We're the outsiders and the cause of all their problems so lets attack the US. All the while, I think we're just trying to keep people from shooting one another and trying to give the new government time to establish itself so that the Iraqi people and other nations will accept them.

It's a no-win situation for us. If we stay we're trying to be the defacto rulers of the country. If we leave, we've left their new government with little support and probably doomed it.

I don't know enough about the Iraqi people to know if they can have a government not based on a military model and our departure may just cause them to slip back into regime as bad or worse than the one they had before.

It sucks just like any other war! I don't believe the US should even have invaded Iraq! Those people didn't want the US there! Besides what makes them so special that American lives have to die because of them. If it was that they were under a dictatorship and a cruel ruler that torture its people daily, then why isn't the US in Sudan or Somalia where there are so many transgressions against humanity but the US doesn't seem to care about them. Anyway, war is not the answer for anthing!

I do understand why we're there. I do agree with the recent surge into Afghanistan, finally. I do believe that Hussein always had possession of wmd's and just relocated them. Imho.

Why don't you read the other 600 posts (from this week!) that addressed the same question?

I don't really support it...i haven't seen any results from this war but i do support our troops who are there even though i don't support the war. Sounds kind of dumb but even though i don't support doesn't change the fact that they're there fighting and dying. SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!

We shouldn't be there, but we are there, so arguing whether we should be is moot. Let's finish the job so America and the rest of the world can move forward.
