I plan on joining the Navy but tend to disagree with most conservative stances. Would I just end up butting heads with everyone?

Best wishes and safe seas to you, new recruit!

I think you will find the Navy life just about the same as dealing with any type of civilian co-worker. Some you will get along with, some will be jerks.

One thing you will find though, is that command operates in "Navy Mode" at all times. Missions, large or small, are done for the honor and pride of the Navy, not for political advantage either way. You will be serving your country, your ship, and your shipmates. No more, no less.

Joining the military is a GOOD idea for a Liberal. Once you have seen the real world, I am sure you will change your ideas a lot.
Most of the military are conservative, but most of the guys you will be working with day to day are also young and not really interested in discussing politics.

That should not be an issue for joining or not joining Navy. If you love to be in Navy, irrespective of your political beliefs you should do it.

Most are conservatives....most enlisted are too young ( 18-19 ) or don't care about politics. They are there to do the job....

You joint the navy and want to butt heads. Don't join. You are a nothing. It will just lead to your demise. The character on here who has no name saying command policy is to tune to fox news is a liar.

Remember, not everyone in the military is conservative, but It is best if you keep your political opinions to yourself.

I am ex-Navy and it depends on who you plan on talking to. If it's offtime and your just "shooting the breeze" then it shouldn't be a problem. If it's dutytime then I would definitely get ready to butt heads with people.

I have found that about 75% (+/- one or two) are conservative. The other 25% do not state their political leanings, because they do not want to hear the ravings of neo-con's repeating inaccurate slogans and getting interrupted when they are in the middle of making a valid point.
