Infantry tactics between the Army and the Marines are pretty similiar...when it comes to movement to contact, react to indirect fire, etc. it's all done the same way.

The main differences would be how we get there. Even within the Army, getting to the battle is different with every division (you have Air Assault, "Truck Assault", Airborne, mechanized, etc). The marines have amphibious vehicles, and practice large-scale amphibious landings. I'm sure Rangers and Special Forces practice amphibious insertions also, but at the most in battalion force levels.

Marines training is longer. They run longer distances. In their training there is something called a crucible (a severe test) in which you have to hike 48 miles in 52 hours with only 4 hours of sleep and 3 rations. Army dosen't have that. If you wanna be the best, full of pride and the toughest join marines, in other words if you want to be a badass. But on the other hand, the army has Rangers and Special forces which are up to standard with Marines.

BTW , do you know what ARMY stands for?

ARMY = Ain't Ready for Marines Yet.

Sean Its ok, I know deep down inside you wish you had joined the Marines. Just kiddin Sean, Seriously, Thanks for serving man.

'There are no bad battalions, just bad commanders.' The differences are cosmetic. What the Marines as a branch focus more on is the "Every Marine a rifleman" ethos that the Army lacks. In basic training, the Marines do more mind-screwing than in the Army. Once you get to your unit/ the fleet, how hard you train and how well you learn to think on your feet is a function of what your superior officers and NCOs are doing, and how committed they are to their work. No matter which branch you're in, if your Battalion Commander is a ticket-punching a$$hat, you will be stuck with lame training and speechifying. A grunt is a grunt.

Marine Riflemen kill the Enemy with an M16A4

Army Riflemen kill the Enemy with an M4

Either way, the Enemy dies..........

By the way, it was the Marines who lost control over Fallujah(not that that was their fault< they went in with different orders than the 82nd Abn. who DID have positive Control in February 2004.

By the way Re-Taking Fallujah involved Substantial numbers of Army units as well

1/5Cav
2/7Cav
3/8Cav
44ENGR
2nd Brigade 1st Cavalry Division
3/82FA
759MP(Comp)

3rd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division
2/2 Inf
4th Cav

US Army SOCOM

oh yeah and for "HALO" below wanna know what USMC stands for?
U-Uncle
S-Sams
M-Misguided
C-Convicts

In the fall of 2004, Army infantry tried over four months to contain the growing tension and take control of Fallujah.... Marine Corps infantry were called in November, and wrapped up the job in... wasn't it just a week or two??

Does that answer your question?

Marines are the tip of the spear. I'm biased, but I would put the Marine infantry over the Army.

Common sense will tell you that training is ok, but the test is in actual combat. This is where you get the real training, on the job. You can always say that you're going to do this and do that, but some of these gungo phonies froze in actual combat. The proof is in the pudding.

The Marine training is a little closer to the training that the Green Brett get. Basic training is almost twice as long.

They're both a great service and should be held in high esteem.
