Every war in history has had at least one major battle that for the most part decided the outcome of the war. If the greatest military in world history (the US) can't kill maybe 25,000 insurgents/terrorists in Iraq because it can't get them into a major battle how will the war in Iraq ever be won?

Oct. 5, 2006 — How bad is bad? After six weeks away from Iraq and returning to Baghdad, I find the city appears much worse than when I left.

Last week, according to a U.S. military spokesman, Baghdad experienced more attacks from car bombs and improvised explosive devices than at any other time this year. In the last six days, 24 U.S. soldiers have died in Baghdad, numbers that haven't been seen in the city since the 2003 invasion.

ABC's local Iraqi staff tell us the USA military will not visit certain neighborhoods due to so many attacks.

The U.S. military said the reason for the increased casualty rate is that U.S. troops are now aggressively engaging the enemy, and they expected some push back. Military experts say this could end up like Vietnam. The USA military admits the war is getting harder to fight everyday.

When our troops are ferried into battle in 25-year-old helicopters, which we are told are falling apart, despite the excellent attention of over worked ground crews. and are protected with very few ageing fighter/ bomber aircraft

I think that through the hollywood movies they are way overated. they are basically just normal troops who cannot be compared to the SAS, South African special forces, Selous SCouts from Rhodesia and the S A Police Special Task Force and Koevoet who operate up to 700 miles in enemy territory for months at a time on food with now backup and accomlish there mission and survive

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice warned Iraqi leaders on Thursday they have limited time to settle their differences and that the escalating waves of violence are intolerable.

so Condi goes to Baghdad on a "surprise"visit"
Just curious as to how the military feels about this woman who, as of late seems to be losing her touch. also we were told early on that military handpicks which soldiers they want as 'backdrops' when someone like Condi visits. True?
