what are some items that marines in iraq would like and need? I got a few stuff like beef jerky, gum, qtips, juice packets to insert in cantines, a few books and stuff, but just stuff they need. Me and my family are going to get 3 schools into drives and stuff to write and send stuff to iraq.
Thanks for your answers, these marines appreciate it.

Erudite's comments about laughing at dying soldiers really pissed me off. Usually I stay outta the political stuff but I had to say something. I know that not everyone supports the war but that isn't the same thing as supporting the troops. SO, i'm wondering since people like Erudite and the others who are so against the troops (which of course is their "right"), if another country or countries came and bombed us here today then what would THEY do? Go there and talk to them and beg them not to do it again? Sit and do nothing? Those SAME troops that are over there friggin doing their duty, would be the same ones these hate spewing people would be calling on to seek justice if one of the lives of any of their wife, children, or family member's lives were taken or in danger. If we didn't have a military, this country would have been blown off the map a long time ago. The same troops some of you are judging, you might desperately need one day.

"My son died in Iraq to protect the United States of America". Now, have you heard anything more silly than this? ( Note:...Iraq did not do 9-11......They have no WMD.....No direct threat to the USA......) So tell me again how these brave silly soldiers die for the freedom of the USA by fighting in Iraq. Yes! I want to laugh!!

My fiance is thinking about joining the Marines. If he decides to join, I would be incredibly proud of him and would stand by him. For those of you who have experience with this, is there any advice you can give me? Is it very difficult to be married to a Marine? What about when we want to start a family?

I know that a lot of the times, before a person deploys, that they become distant from the people that care about them most. As I have several friends with husbands in the military, I was told to expect this a long time ago. While I don't have a husband in the military, I DO have a best friend in the military. We've always been close for years, and he is like a big brother to me. He is leaving VERY soon. My problem is, lately, he has been acting in the most hurtful way. I know that he is busy, so I can understand the lack of communication; however, he has also been saying the most hurtful things ever. It's like he is deliberately being mean and obnoxious. He has always been a very sweet person, and has NEVER acted this way before. How can I be there for him and try to help him through what has to be a very hurtful time, without at the same time sacrificing my feelings? I want to stand by him, but it's tearing me up when he says the things he does.

Remember 2003 in March? We were told the war would be over in Iraq in about 6 or 8 months. ( News week and Time Magazine ) What happened? And when the insurgents started killing our soldiers Mr Rumsfelt stated "They are dead enders.....They will be defeated in about two months". ( This was said in July of 2003 ) So why are we still in Iraq? How come we can't fight a rag tag bunch of insurgents? I'll tell you........The war is illegal and if you are smart you can also figure the war is wrong.

I am a 17yo female, athletic (I play on a soccer team), and I'm wondering which military branch is the best for me to join. I would prefer to join the reserves/guard, instead of going on active duty..but I'm open to other ideas. I've talked with a National Guard recruiter, but my dad tells me that the Air National Guard is better. I dont want a computer/technical job or anything like that, I would like something that challenges me physically.. although I have considered aviation/pilot as well.. So any suggestions?

If I wanted to be in an armor like MOS..Not Abrahms Tank or anything but towards a Jeep or HUMVEE type vehicle..

Would I want to talk to the recruiter about 19D(Calvary Scout) or 14S(Avenger Crewmember?)..Or if not these..What MOS?

The daughter of a Soldier Last week I was in Atlanta, Georgia attending a conference. While I was in the airport, returning home, I heard several people behind me beginning to clap and cheer. I immediately turned around and witnessed one of the greatest act's of patriotism I have ever seen. Moving thru the terminal was a group of soldiers in their camo's, as they began heading to their gate everyone (well almost everyone) was abruptly to their feet with their hands waving and cheering. When I saw the soldiers, probably 30-40 of them, being applauded and cheered for it hit me. I'm not alone. I'm not the only red blooded American who still loves this country and supports our troops and their families. Of course I immediately stopped and began clapping for these young unsung heroes who are putting their lives on the line everyday for us so we can go to school,

Am I only one one who hears this phrase and wants to scream? I don't care where you fall in the political spectrum, this is the most blatant case of not getting the point in George Duh-bleyoos long list of topics where he didn't get the point. This is an extremely difficult subject, what to do in Iraq, and beating us over the head with a soundbite isn't going to solve the problem. So answer me this, what's a good soundbite for the President's position on iraq? I'm serious so lets keep the unnecessary rhetoric to a minimum.

There are few people in the world who truly deserve to die but this monster is one of them.
