This is one of many types of gun used in WW2.
The M1911 is a single action, semi-automatic handgun, chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge. It was designed by John Browning, and was the standard-issue handgun for the United States Armed Forces from 1911 to 1985. It was widely used in World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Its formal designation as of 1940 was Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911 for the original Model of 1911 or Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911A1 for the M1911A1, adopted in 1924.

Most soldiers in WWII used bolt-action rifles, regardless of country.
Some soldiers were armed with light machine guns or sub-machine guns like the MP-38 or the PPSh-41. American soldiers were issued the semi-automatic M1 Garand rifle.
Towards the end of the war, a limited number of German and Soviet soldiers used assault rifles.

Big question..wiki has a good list to start with:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_common_World_War_II_infantry_weapons
It's too big to paste in.
Some pictures of WW2 weps:
http://www.military-collections.com/weapons.html
Insane list including artillery:
http://www.codboards.com/archive/index.php/t-2031.html
That should keep you going for a bit.

Hand-guns; anti-aircraft guns; guns mounted on boats, planes and tripods, big guns, little guns and guns that went bang.
Jeez, what a pathetic "IQ-just-above-a-houseplant" - question!
