Excellent question Erudite. I remember all the scare tactics. They even referred to it as "Shock and Awe!!!!" What an arrogant statement to make when you're drinking and dropping bombs on innocent people.
Not to mention, how many times have they accidentally blown up their own allies??!! They have taken out countless Canadian soldiers and blame it on Friendly Fire incidents!!!! LOL. Classic.
If the truth EVER came out about 9/11, the country would be in absolute shambles. But 299,999,999 Americans (Erudite excluded) will never be able to comprehend reality because all the news media restrict any content that they don't agree with.
They learned in Iraq that their military isn't as Big and Bad as they thought they were. When people have nothing to lose, they stand to be better fighters. The Americans are there because of a lie. The Iraqis are getting bombs dropped, cowardly on their own homes.
And THEN they have the nerve to go into Afghanistan!!!!!!!!!!! Unbelievable. Every empire falls. Somehow it will happen to the uneducated morons too.
Pick a fight with a country that tells you that they have "WMD" if you really want to solve that problem! North Korea came right out and warned you cocky pricks but you just send them food and everything is alright...
One day, some country will come to kick your asses and it will hit you in an instant how corrupt your government was/is.
Peace!

Mr. Rumsfeld might have said that, but no where in your posting did you mention anything by any Military member saying they thought it would be easy to take over Iraq, and that they would be out of there quickly.
Rather they're for it or against it, I'm sure that most Americans are concerned and interested in the war in Iraq, but you're way too preoccupied with it, almost to the point of obsession. You need to get out of your house more and be around people that don't talk about the war 24 hours a day. Find friends who don't consider Military bashing a hobby, and enjoy other topics besides Iraq. Perhaps their normal way of life will rub off on you.

We defeated Saddam in a month. The defeat was only part of the battle. Keeping the peace is a different issue. We have brought a freely elected government to a country that has never had it. The region has not either. That is the win there.
The problem is we are fighting like we did in Vietnam. We worry too much about collateral damage. We are not fighting to win. We need to crush the enemy and kick out the media who broadcasts the war on the nightly news.

The military did not think it was going to be easy. It was the the current administration that ignored the advice of it's military officers and forged right ahead. Funny how all those guys advocating war are all draft dodgers.

If the politician would keep their noses out of the war it would have been over in 3-6 months.

The MILITARY (i.e., career soldiers) did NOT think Iraq would be easy to take over. BUSH and POLITICIANS (including political hacks with brass) falsely claimed it would be.
Remember General Shinseki, et. al.

The military said it would be difficult, almost impossible. The State Department drafted war plans that proved this to be true. Colin Powell was pushed aside, and Donald Rumsfeld went forward with all signals go to please Dick Cheney and his oil interests according to their secret energy meetings.
Don't worry, the same cabal is already plotting to invade Iran!

Frankly, I think the US Govt got the idea that this would be as easy as Desert Storm, where we went in and many Iraqis simply ran. It caught us by surprise that that is not what happened this time.
