I was in the navy for a short while. And I have seen a lot of crazy things,I will say not all military people cheat,I wasn't married or in a relationship while I was in the navy, But I have seen guys who would leave their wives on the docks and when we would pull into port and would hook up with the first thing that would spread their legs,I have also seen women, who are the wives or girlfriends of the sailors, watch their husband/boyfriend leave on his ship and be waiting for another to come in dock on another ship. There are military people who don't cheat it just depends on the person,The military isn't why they cheat people cheat because they want to.This goes on all the time no matter where you are just because people don't take marriage serious.

After spending nearly 5 years on an aircraft carrier, and 2 six month cruises under my belt I can say yes, there are men that cheat on their wives. Some were blatently obvious, and some kept it under tight raps.
There were also married WOMEN on the ship that would cheat on their husbands who were stuck at home.
But I can tell you that the biggest cheaters I have seen in my experience are the wives that are home while their husbands are the ones out to sea for months. On a ship (at least mine), men are outnumber women 50-1 easily. Very slim pickings.
So the REAL question is, do wives at home while their husbands are at sea for months cheat? Yes, they do.

Cheating happens in marriages no matter what occupation the spouses have. It's not limited to Military couples.
If someone in the Navy wants to mess around on their wife/husband, they don't have to be out to sea to do it, they can sneak around and do it while they're in port! Civilians do it like that all the time!
I bet that most people that believe that all Military men cheat have been cheated on their selves by someone in the Armed Forces, therefor they think all Military men do it. There are plenty of happy, loving Military couples. The majority of us don't suddenly think it's ok to cheat just because we're separated, and we don't fall out love just because we're away from each other for months at a time.
You could take the people in the Military who cheat and put them in a civilian job, (And for a minute let's say they had never served in the Armed Forces) and they would still be cheaters! People who cheat do it because they obviously have little respect for their spouses. If you have a good marriage where you're both truly in love, you communicate, trust one another and are truthful, neither spouse would want to go outside the marriage, not even if they were separated for months due to their job.

Well actually it tends to be the other way arround. As a Navy vet, it tend to be the wives who are doing the cheating and sending the Dear John letters. Most ships have few females & port visits are brief and rarely go to party towns like Subic Bay used to be.

There is probably some guys out there who are deployed that are cheating on their wives but that does not mean they all do it. People cheat on their spouses regardless of the circumstance. But just because some people do it doesn't mean everyone does it.

Are the spouses cheating on their military spouses while they are away defending their country? There are women on ships now too. That question can be looked at more than one way.

We didn't have that problem in the 60s and 70s.
Not a lot encouragement for fidelity either. It depends on the person.
Good luck.
