To make an airborne jump is like nothing you have ever done. That first step is the hardest looking down is like looking at a Chess board small squares, sometimes with something in motion. I enjoy cold so I found it very pleasant to be hit by a blast of cool wind and sometimes rain. All your standard jumps are by rip cord (a cord is fasten to the aircraft and the other end to your chute and when you jump and get to the end of the cord your chute is deployed).

I remember one of my first jumps; the jump master was leaning out the door, playing as if he was jumping, going to fly. He lean out one last time and did not climb back inside. My last name is Adams so that made me first in what they called the stick, I eventually unhooked my chute went to the front and knock on the Crew chiefs door. He asked me “What in the hell was I doing up there, I better get the F back to my spot, my *** was grass, etc”. I told him I thought the jump master had jumped or fallen out. He took the end of my rip cord and started beating me on the head, telling me how stupid I was and dragging me back up front. He yelled at everyone to sit down and kept dragging me toward the door. When we were to the door he turned white, looked around, looked outside to see if he was caught in the slip stream; then turned me loose and ran back forward. In a minute, the pilot came running back then they ordered us all to sit and closed the doors. After landing, we found he had indeed fallen out. The worse part until that point parachute was not mandatory and he was not wearing one.

Years later I am paying for the macho business; we ran and jumped with jump boots and pack. My feet and legs hurt and bother me all the time. So do the guys who served with me. God bless you and the Southern People.

If its done for fun then it is a adrenaline rush like you cant imagine.
If it is done because you have to, well then its pure fear.
But if you are considering jumping for fun, go for it. Its a blast.
