Baghdad battle bloodier for U.S. troops. Associated Press.
BAGHDAD, Iraq - The Iraq war could be heading to its decisive moment: a battle for the capital of Baghdad that already has turned dramatically bloodier for American soldiers and carries enormous stakes for the country's future. The USA is hurting badly.

At least 13 American soldiers have been killed around Baghdad since Monday — the highest four-day U.S. toll in the capital since the 2003 invasion.

That count is likely to rise higher as the U.S.-led forces step up their campaign to root out the extremist militias, death squads and terrorist cells that have turned the city into a collection of armed, ethnically divided camps.

No longer a limited security problem while the main war was being fought out west in Anbar province, the battle of Baghdad is turning out to be "a critical point in the Iraq war," says former Pentagon analyst Anthony Cordesman.

The USA is having a very tough time making headway.

Ive been watching the band of brothers tv series and i was just wondering if 'Hitlers last gamble' offensive in the Ardennes could have suceeded with better luck? Or was it always a non-starter, bound to fail?

ok this is a general statement I was reading allot of peoples answers to questions and they seem not to know that the navy has a fighting force of their own oh wait they have 3 fighting forces first and for most I respect Marine's but they are and have always been from the beginning under the department of the navy yes they may be on their own path but their seal still says Department of the navy 2nd is well the SEAL'S nothing more to say on them but the Seabee’s are a unique group on their own they are not marines but yet not really sailors kind of in limbo THEY BUILD AND THEY FIGHT one Marine said if I need something I know where to find it the bees if I need help or someone to have my back the bee's are there a good friend of mine who was in Vietnam said the most amazing thing he ever saw was a heavy equipment operator in the middle of a fire fight clearing an area for a lz kept on pushing dirt and would stop just long enough to pop a few rounds then right back to work

Sorry, I sort of confused some people with my first question (new to this Yahoo! thing), so I will repost.

Here are my stats with a week before I go into Air Force BMT.
1 Mile: 7:45
1.5 Miles: 11:10-11:20
3 Miles: 27:00
Pushups: 27 in 1 minute (They say you have two mins.... I hear they only actually give you one, so I'll post how many I can do in one).
Pullups: 2-3

Also, again I'll pose the question for other airmen here... Based on your experience, for that initial PT Test, am I going to stick out like a sore thumb with those stats, or will I fall somewhere in the average (which is where I want to be, right in the middle)?

As a combat control officer.
Will be transferred stations often?
Will I be spending a lot of time away from home?

My recruiter said most show up to training with around a 40 pushup max. If that's true, I'm WAY behind. But can that really be true?

In a combat zone it would seem that hearing damage would result from shooting a gun and from the surrounding gunfire. However, if a soldier has earplugs then maybe he wouldn't hear instructions yelled by his superior

I'm just curious on how the Air Force life is, from BMT, to starting Technical Training. I've been to a recruiter, talked to him, he wasn't too informative he just kept showing me pictures of different planes, and he told me what he did, which was some kind of job where he would work with satellites. I'm interested in the Aerial Gunner job the most, and/or Military Police. The whole kind of Special Forces job would be my ideal job, though I don't think im in the physical/mental shape for it right now. I'm not heavy, but a little underweight, other then that, strong & willing to do my best. Does anyone know about those 2 jobs? Also after talking with the recruiter he told me I had to take a practice ASVAB, so I did on this computer that he had, and sadly I failed shy of like 4~5 Q's. I went to pickup the ASVAB Study guide he suggested me after, and i've been studying it since off & on. On base what's it like? Places to meet people, new friends and stuff? Any info is appreciated! Thanks

I am a disabled veteran and purple heart recipiant who served in the Battle of Najaf (Aug 04) and Second Fallujah (Nov 04). I want to know how much the following items cost so I can tell my boss for a comparitive analysis report. Please don't write with any smart *** replies like "tax dollars" or "you should be concerned with the cost of human life." I just want to know how much the following cost:

M-16 or M-4 rifle?
OTV Body Armor?
Stryker Combat Vehicle?
Bradley Fighting Vehicle?
Abrams Tank?
ACH Helmet?
Hummvee?

Thank you for your time.

it seems as though all we have in the media are shallow individuals that spout random critisims about the inhumane punishment of criminals, how this shows that the president is less of a leader and how the military are some kind of homocidal natzis out to kill the peace loving populus of the world. i am a marine and was with the 15th meu and marine rct1 e.g. the first groups into afghanistan and iraq. i would almost pray for a war here to thin out these people so my kids wouldn't have to listen to this petty trash. its seems the problem with the civilian side of the country is that they are lazy and wouldn't even take action to save their neiborhoods or families. Your thoughts?
