Have you read the job description? Combat control teams deploy into hostile environments for reconnaissance and fire control operations, to establish assault zones or airfields, and similar missions. This is an off-shoot of the Army Airborne Pathfinders (I was trained in this years ago) who parachute into similar environments to secure drop zones, provide weather info, and give guidance to inbound aircraft deploying personnel and equipment. It is a very dangerous job, often one very few others are willing to do.

Will you be spending a lot of time away from home? To answer that question yourself, simply look at the job description again and ask yourself how often you're going to have those situations near your home.

If, after reading the above, you still want to go ahead, then by all means do so. As I said, I signed up to be an Army Airborne Pathfinder years ago (Vietnam war). However, in my own case, I never had to actually engage in such activities since my main MOS (military occupational specialty) pretty much kept me out of immediate combat areas.

Because you're an officer candidate you will have to get began to your bureaucracy correct now, principally on the grounds that it could take slightly for a reg. recruiter to uncover an "officer recruiter" for your subject. I will supply you my propose as a member of the US Navy. I was once determining among the Air Force and Navy and it ended up that the Navy simply fell into situation for me. Either approach (I have a few school however wanted help with completing on the grounds that of the fiscal strain) and so I went in as an E2. If you'll be able to cross in as an officer you SHOULD do it. The pay is better, the paintings is extra intellectual and no more bodily, you could have extra of a say in in which you cross, and your housing allowance is bigger this means that your condominium might be a lot nicer. As a long way as OTS you are going to have got to speak approximately that with a recruiter. I have no idea what activity they're going to present you centered on what they want and what your measure is in (I recognize you instructed us however I nonetheless am no longer definite what with a purpose to lead you into) however they could ask you to come to be anything clinical, or anything in aviation.. who is aware of. The factor is that you're going to have a quality profession, you are going to have scholar mortgage compensation (in the event you desire it) you could get an advantage, and so forth etc. Talk to a recruiter to peer what they are able to exceptionally present you right now. Good success!

For a Combat Control Officer the job is very demanding. I'm pretty sure you'll be switching stations often, and honestly I don't know how long you'll be away from home, all depends on the mission :]

Talk to a recruiter, they will be able to answer all your questions. However I would suggest you take an occupation that would eventually transfer to a civilian job. There is not a lot of demand in civvy street for a combat control officer. Air Traffic controller would be a good one.

In the Air Force you generally stay put for several years at one station. Then of course, we are at war for the foreseeable future and your interesting in being a combat control officer? Rethink that one. Also, if you are the homesick type and never lived anywhere else before, how adaptive will you be?

Why would you be transferred often? You will be near a battle zone as you will be the one in charge of the flight operations. We really wouldn't have a great need for your skills here in the states, now would we.
