I spent two years there when soldiers fled to Canada. They will not be allowed to stay btw.

But now that Canadian troops are dying in the ME what if your troops went awol Would you love them as much as you loved the media saying how wonderful it was for US soldiers to flee to Canada.

think long and hard before you answer this one.

I care because I have 4 canadian step kids 3 boys and my only son, is a soldier who was activated with the guard. the Canadian media and the AWOL us soldiers made it seem like they would die if they came back to the USA. Second most Canadians not with the mil have no clue about mil laws. To the wife, thank your hubsband for me.

BTW to the Vietnam solider my ex came from SE Asia. His family would have been killed, so you did save some human good lives. Just thought you should know. I am proud of your service as well. WARS suck. Soldiers flee. Too many Canadians get the story wrong.

They thought it was fun to see the soldiers flee. bad US and all that hate stuff don;t you know!

Shoes on the other side now.
PEACE to the world (I pray anyway for that)

I just answered this the other way around and I'm going to use the same answer with comments.Like why do you care, what business is it of yours? How many of you have been in the service or faced danger? Talk is cheap and especially when you come from an aseptic environment like today's kids. I saw one soldier complain about having to have community toilets. I have listen and argued with many of you in person and here about what it takes to fight a war. A 8 year old killed my first soldier with a exploding coke can. In a attempted over run we killed a man who had been the barber for my unit for 11 years. I used to find my men with their privates cut off and crammed in their mouths. In Nam you cannot find heaven with out your eyes and they would do anything and I mean anything to keep them. If rather to see that they wanted to run more power to them. It takes more bravery to admit to yourself that you cannot be the killer you thought you were. It is no different today and in fact it is worse they play SOCOM and think are soldiers sadly that is in a hermetical environment and then they realize the smells, fear, pain. loneliness. If they want to run let them alone. Oh, by the way eventually it is no longer a crime to desert or be AWOL, they don't look for you and if caught you are discharged. Even the Government does not care.

First of all, in Canada if a soldier does not believe in the war, they are not sent! There would be no reason for them to go AWOL. My husband is doing his DAG this week to go over seas. Not only does he need to go to Psych, so do I. Our military makes sure that the family unit is stable and able to survive a deployment. We have known a few soldiers who did not agree with the war in Afghanistan and they have left the military, with no prejudice.

Bush’s war isn’t worth the loss of any one life, American, Canadian or otherwise. We gave 50,000 American lives to S Korea, 57,000 to Vietnam, and you would have today’s hero’s pass in the same vain. Get a grip, this is Bush’s political war, nothing can or will be gained for our security by either a win or a loss. It is a shame these soldiers today are having to do as we did in the last unpopular war, follow a worthless commander and chief towards defeat.

If all the Canadian troops went AWOL, I think we, in the U.S., should be gracious to both of them for their individual efforts in helping us protect our way of life.

They would be sent back across the border, anyway, it wouldn't happen.

Any American who f**ks off to another country to avoid the draft should be deported back to America, and forced to serve.

If people go AWOL its their deal.... Some people just can't hack it. It should be a volonteer military... if you want to come down here, come on in! if we want to go there, go ahead! No one should be forced to fight... thats retarded.

I can understand the Canadian side, being Canadian. It wouldn't bother me a bit. In the US, I am now married to an American. I'll get thumbs down for this: the Mexicans don't bother me. I see so many of them who are working and rebuilding. They line up at Home Depot early in the mornings for supplies, etc. It wouldn't bother me either way.
