j H is right, but there is a caveat.

The best job for yourself is what your test scores, your talents pre-existing before miltary service, and your desire and motivation make you good at. If you were a computer wizard or proficient ham radio operator before you got in, then there is no reason why you shouldn't excel at an Army 25 series MOS for instance. If you're technically proficient at your job, then your promotions are quicker and your responsibilities greater.

You mentioned combat MOS fields specifically, and each person in these fields will either give a reason why their job sucks on a day-to-day basis (plenty of time out in the field for the infantry, plenty of time in the motor pool for armor, plenty of time out on the range for artillery) that is offset by such factors as unit pride and cameraderie. Even the most stressing unit for line dogs in training has high morale if everyone in the Chain of Command is decent, motivated, extremely technically and tactically proficient, and thus admired and well-liked.

Here's the caveat:

If you're looking at it purely from a prestige standpoint (especially the "ooh ahh" factor from unknowing civilians) then combat arms (this includes attack aviation and special operations for the purposes of this point) or some other high-risk job, especially one run by an officer, are the most glamorous. Even JAG is more prestigious thanks to that ridiculous TV show. The financial compensation is much better for mid-to-senior enlisted and commissioned ranks in these fields because of special pays (flight pay, sea pay, language pay, hazardous duty pay, etc).

The best job is really what you set your heart to doing and do well. Everyone else will disagree, some will insist "Special Forces!" when they've never even been in the military, and some will say that any job in the military is worthy of contempt or ridicule. It's entirely your call, if this is your life we're talking about.

If it isn't, and you're just asking to figure out which really is the "best" job, there isn't. There's over 200 ways alone in the Army to be the best. The best is the best not because of the job, but the servicemember putting in the dedication and the time.

I was in two services and half a dozen MOS's in my thirty years of service. The best job is the one you have the aptitude for. In the military you have to love what you do and the reason you do it. This kind of motivation will allow you to survive the ups and downs of military life. So I would proceed cautiously taking the most training you can get in specialty areas where you will thrive. You already know from your ASVAP and basic battery of tests what your aptitudes are. So select a field that fits your profile. I had high score levels in Mechanical aptitude and very little education when I enlisted. I spent ten years in the Navy and rose to be an E-6 Quartermaster. When I joined the Army they made me an Infantryman and I spent the next ten years as a Drill Instructor and Platoon Sergeant. During Desert Storm I converted MOS to Military Police and became an Operations Sergeant and First Sergeant of a Military Police Company. Later I became a Command Sergeant Major of an Aviation Battalion. I never had a job that I hated by following my intuition about my own likes and dislikes. In that journey I managed to get an AA Degree, a BA Degree and an MBA Degree. Now I am retired from the military and have a second career with the Government.

The best job in the armed forces is Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. People rarely shoot at you when you have this job, and it pays really, really well.

Otherwise, go with whatever job gets you the biggest guns.

Something that has nothing to do with seeing the battlefield... No way you could get me to fight for this stupid *** "police action." If they come to the home turf then bring it on... its not our job to take care of the world.
