My friend was convicted of a gross misdemeanor for DV in Wa. state 3 years ago and wants to be a correctional officer and this charge is keeping him from doing this cause he won't be able to carry a gun. He never had problems before this and since then. Can he go back to court to appeal it with a lawyer and try to get it expunged? And what are the chances of getting it off?

I was arrested for DUI and sentenced to 60 days jail and 90 days at a " half way house " after doing my jail time I never went to the half way house, it has been over 2 years since then, I am considering turning myself in so I can move on with my life without worry, does anyone know what the judge might sentence me too,,, will it just be the 90 days that I was originally sentenced to in the halfway house only thius time in jail or will it be the max sentence for my original areest which had a maximum of 2 years,,,,, this all happened in Michigan.......... also what would happen if I happened to get stopped by the police in another state ??

I know no one really knows for sure what a judge will do but, if your in the legal field or have been thru a similar event, maybe you can shed some light on this for me....... thanks

If it's so bad, why do you never see victims in the ER? Alcohol kills around 400,000 anually, yet that's OK?
It has been researched for the past 50 years with no conclusion that it's bad for you. The JAMA did have a report of heart troubles, but I think McDonalds would kill you quicker.
And before you say it, it is no more gateway drug than cigarettes or alcohol. I've met coke addicts who have never tried it once. Now cocaine, that kills! And alcohol was their gateway drug BTW.

It's been waged since 1914, more offficially since Nixon created the DEA in the early 70's. Yet drugs are still widely available. The lesson of prohibition is that if there is a societal demand, making it illegal emboldens criminal enterprise. Just because someone writes a law doesn't mean it's going to change thousands of years of human behavior.
Furthermore we currently have the world's largest prison population, more than China. A lot of those cases involve drugs. Does that say anything to you? Maybe we should try treatment facilities instead of bars. They also used to incarcerate the mentally ill, was that appropriate?
Laws not followed by the population are bad laws.

My daughter was with a friend who squirted washable window paint on the window of a car belonging to a girl who was in a fight with my daughter. The owner of the car(we are not sure of ownership) or her friend called and made a police report. Later that nite these girls called my daughter to meet them so they could talk. My daughter did not go alone or meet them in a private place. Good thing too because one of them stabbed her in the face. now that is just to give the highlights of the story. The detective in the stabbing case called my daughter and told her that if she wanted to pursue charges on the assult that she would be chgd with criminal vandalism. That did not sound right to me. #1 the total damage to the car is a $5.00 carwash #2 she is not the one who squirted the paint #3 how does one case have anything to do with the other. If anyone knows AZ laws on vandalism please respond. she works w/special needs ppl and would lose her job if she was convicted of a crime
