How many times do you think that has been tried in Court?

In the UK all speeding offences need two sources of information (called corroboration.) In the case of a static camera, the camera records your speed by radar or other device first, source one. The second source is two photos which are taken and timed as you drive over white lines at set distances on the road. By checking the time it took you to get from one white line to the other your speed is double checked, source two.

Please tell me how a car passing you i.e. on the other side of the road, can alter the time it takes your car to pass between the two white lines (or series of lines as is often the case now.)

Nice theory but you are oh so wrong.

You can contest your case in court. Most people get off due to insufficient evidence. In English Law, the police must produce 'evidence' that a 'crime was committed' and they must make that 'evidence' available to you and your legal representative. Quite often the police fail to produce the evident and you walk free.

How to avoid a speeding ticket. Drive very slowly on main roads and in town. Go fast down un-managed country lanes. Go for it and good luck.

PS - the good news is that the hand-held speed cams used by the police cause impotence. They are ruining their sex lives while at the same time collecting money from you. Something about prostitutes in there somewhere.

That's of course if there is film in the camera in the first place.

If there is film, the picture should show the overtaking vehicle.
