You didn't say what State you are in and what you were charged with. Can I assume you are in a State where anything over 3 1/2 inches is a CCW charge? Otherwise the knife wouldn't be any charge.
Depending on what you are charged with and what level of offense that is where you are makes a big difference.
If you were wielding the knife as a weapon it wouldn't matter how big it was, it would be a big problem.

If you are in the UK then the following answer will apply to you, if not then sorry I dont know.
If you are a game keeper and the knife you had is used in connection with your work, which I assume it would be then you have a lawfull excuse to carry it with you - providing that you weren't threatening anyone with it and you were in clothing you would wear at work or travel to and from work in and not in a club on a Saturday night.
The law in relation to knives states that a person is only guilty of an offence if when not at his place of abode (home) he has with him any knife or pointed instrument without lawfull excuse.
Its up to you to prove to the court that the knife was a work tool, but any half decent defence solicitor should be able to get you a not guilty on that.
Good luck

Well, what's the legal blade length in your state? If four inches is legal, not too much of a problem. You face concealed weapon charges no matter what, but since it's a first offense, the penalty'll probably be pretty low if you're even punished at all. Get a concealed weapons permit next time and you shouldn't have to worry unless your employer has a no-weapons policy. If he does, you may lose your job. Hope that doesn't happen, man.

Depends on the circumstances. Knives with a blade length of more than 76mm (3in) are illegal to carry in a public place without reasonable cause. It would be "reasonable cause" if you were at work or on your way to work, but not down the pub. Folded in your pocket might be acceptable if you were still wearing your work jacket, f'rinstance, and on your way home, but not if you put it in your pocket before going for a night out.
You'll have to wait & see what the magistrates think, but with a bit of luck and an apology from you for wasting the court's time you might just receive a caution.

Without knowing charges and jurisdiction, I'd say you'll get a warning or at the most probation. IN NYC, you'd probably get an ACD, or adjournment contemplating dismissal, provided you remain unarrested for six months to a year, your case would be dismissed.

If the knife is used as part of your work, you are allowed to carry it, but only during your working hours. If you carry this knife after work , you are then carrying an offensive weapon...... Plead Insanity.
