Law & Ethics - December 2007

I make this argument in some of my other posts.

Those that are compliant to the 'burden of proof', would you live in a world, where the rule was reversed and all denials had to be logically proven?

I know we go in circles with this one, but maybe i'll categorize this one in 'Law', and see if I can get some new arguments of logic for both sides.

In closing, in criminal-cases in the U.S. isn't the burden of the proof on the prosecution? Why are Scientist, different in their logical-disciplines, go against the grain of the scientific-reasoning the Prosecution must use?

Any professional-opinion matters, as do others, I do have a sense of humor, but I am serious about discovering....Scientific-communities bow down before the creator of the burden of proof, then when falsely accused of something, beg for mercy from the prosecution who's going to prove his denial of guilt is suspect.

Game on!

pit bulls? So many people think they should be illegal and everything. I understand that they can be dangerous, but it's not their fault. It's the idiot owners that train their pitbulls to be vicious, then let them loose outside, and they end up hurting someone. What's your opinion?

And that would include not letting the callers know that they are being recorded. I work in a switchboard at a hospital in Florida and a few of us wonder if our boss is listening in. I want to know if that can be done without us knowing. Any help given is appreciated.

I ordered 3 McChicken sand's and in the middle of my 2nd sand. I found a 1inch long bone that was about 1cm wide and i chocked on it -scratching the back of my throat. I took the bone to show mcdonalds and they refunded my money. I didnt fell as if that was enough. I went and talked to a lawyer that handles some of our families cases and he pretty much laughed and said they would probably pay my medical bills and maybe give me $150 for my trouble. Should I persue this further or leave it alone as it is?

Okay here's my situation: I was living in FL for a year and in the beginning of September my boyfriend at the time and I got robbed at gunpoint by our neighbor and a friend of his saying we had F*ed someone over and they were there to look for something. We had no idea what they weret alking about but that's beside the point. My question is, will I have to appear in court as the victim/witness? I'm not worried about doing it but I'd like to have an idea of what's to come for me in the near future when it comes to that. I live in TN now so I would have to go back to FL. Anyway, the guy is in county jail now and is awaiting trial. Someone please with some area of expertise help me with this. I do not want any stupid answers from people who want points. This is a serious question. Thanks.

Thanks Doc Man. So what do you suggest as far as my job goes? Are they required to give me time off to do this? Would it be the same as if it were jury duty? I'm so lost.

Okay. I've gotten some good answers here and I appreciate them greatly. Now I need someone to tell me if my job is rewuired to give me the time off to take care of this matter. Also should I go ahead and tell them about this and the fact that I may be called to appear? Or is it best to wait until I know for sure? Help me please people I'm so confused. Thanks a bunch!

im renting a room from some old lady in foster city, california. i moved in on the first of december. we have an agreement. on the agreement it says..i'll pay rent, i'll be there for 6months, and i'll pay for my own internet. i only sleep there 2-3times a week. on the 11th, the 4th night that i slept there, she told me i'm using way too much water and told me not to wash my hair everyday and don't take baths only shower and she'll raise my rent.

last night i talked to her when my mom was there. i told her if shes gonna raise my rent then i'll have to move. then she said...we have water shortage...only shower no bath. so i said, what if i have to take a bath? she said no!

since she's not letting me do this and do that...so do i have the right to move out? since on the agreement it says...pay rent..i'll stay there for 6months...i'll pay for my internet..

I posted an answer to a question regarding my belief that society is brainwashed by the media (which was not profain in the least I might add) and my account was deleted. What happened to the right of Freedom of Speech?

I should be allowed to post my beliefs just as everyone else express theirs.

This psycho girl (who was my friend but obviously not anymore) and i got into a verbal argument at work. It was a lot of questioning on my part, and her calling me names. I walked away and said "dont worry you'll get yours someday" but what i meant by that was karma is gonna kick her ***, not me actually doing something. So she she said something threatening in return, but i can't remember what it was. I found out at work today that she called work to ask where the police station was. Supposedly went there and reported me for "threatening to mess with her car". We never even mentioned her car! She obviously is falsely accusing me. Do you think i can get in trouble? This was yesterday and the cops have not contacted me yet. What precautions should i take?

My boyfriend has been divorced for one year, legally seperated for two. Since the divorce, my boyfriend occasionally recieves bills (a hospital bill, a credit card bill, ect) for accounts he did not create, from his exwife's city and state. His exwife is a heavy drug user and has forged his name many times during the seperation. Today my boyfriend recieved a letter from a collections agency, once again from the ex's city and state, for what appears to be an electric bill.

What should we do? Can he press charges?
