I was wondering in what ways did the supreme court act as a force for nationalism in the 1800's?

The article in the Constitution forming the Judicial court system and explaining its duties does not act as a force for establishing nationalism. The duties were to settle conflicts between the states, to settle differences in the interpretation of laws by the lower courts. and to act against those who would commit treason.
