Why is it that if a woman is raped she was to be publicly humiliated and/or put to death? Shouldn't it be the other way around, with the perpetrator being put to death (preferablly castrated beforehand)?

is it against the law for a police officer to not arrest someone because of their relationship with the person?

for example - if an officer married a drug dealer (or some other form of criminal), and the officer knew about his/hers partners addiction - is it against the law for the officer not to arrest his partner?

im not a cop or anything... im just interested =]

My landlord was was informed beforehand that was available to lease for 6 months. They presented me with a 1 year contract in which I crossed out the "year long" dates and input the "6 month" dates. I then sign and dated the contract and return it. The contract still required a signature from the landlord and a date. Now after 6 months the landlord states that I still have 6 more months left on the contract. If he signed and dated the contract after I altered it, does that mean he agreed to my adjustments? He specifically knew I would not be available for the full year and still urged me to stay until I had to leave.

I am that business. I own a taxicab Company. All of my cabs are not smoking. However, every time I hire a smoker, he/she ends up smoking in one of my cabs, getting ashes all over the place and burning holes in the carpet ( not to mention making it smell like an ashtray on wheels) I fired 3 guys for this already this year. I just don't want to waist the advertising money on hiring somebody else who I will have to fire because of smoking.

My exhusband filed for custody of our children and lost about a year ago. The judge granted him all summer for visitation though. We live in TX and ex is in MI. He took my daughter last summer and only had her 10 days out of the whole 3 months the rest of the time she was with his parents in WI not even the same state. My ex took their social security money and then shipped them off how bad is that, Is there any thing I can have done to prevent him from using the children as pawns just so he can get at their money for a few months?Since my daughter does not want to go stay with her dad and she is 16 will the courts hear her? Also how will this impact my 12 year old who is governed by the same order. He would rather stay home as well. Is it likely that a judge would at least shorthen visitation? Perhaps address the issue of the money? What would be the best way to proceed?

In order to have a valid case, a plantiff must establish that the defendant owed the plaintiff a duty of care; (2) breached that duty; (3) by so doing caused damage to the plaintiff; and (4) that damage must not have been too remote.

What does it mean when it says the "damage must not have been too remote" - what is an example of this?

Can anyone point me in the direction to find a law which states that a manufacturer will treat it's dealer network with similar pricing? I am concerned that I work with a manufacturer that is offering my competition better pricing and I want to know if there is a law which prohibits this.
Thank you

Lets say if someone was tried for murder, but no body was found. If the case is strong enough it can go to trial. The Jury then finds him not guilty. Lets say five years down the line, the missing person comes back and it appears that he was never murder. Then the person that was already tried for his crime really kills him for real, like poising him or something. He can't legally be charged with killing him because he was already tried for killing them and can't be tried for the same crime twice.

I do believe it is infringement on personal liberties, but often people believe that hitting their kids is good for the child despite any research to support this. The opposite is true, the more a child is hit the more likely they are to be unproductive members of a society.
Should the society protect children from their uneducated parents?

Particularly ones like DUI Checkpoints where they demand I.D., My understanding is that it is against the 4th Amendment for them to stop you and check without reasonable suspicion of a law being broken.

Ok, right now I am receiving $254 in child support a month for my two children. We recently had a modification hearing at the attorney general's office (he attended only by phone) and his salary had gone way up (71K) so my child support was supposed to go up to like $850. He was supposed to sign the papers but didn't because he found out he was going to get a pay cut. So now we are going to have to go before the judge to have the child support set.
I talked to him and he told me he has gotten his salary cut almost in half to what he was making, but that in 6 mos. or so that it will be back up to the 71K or maybe even higher than that.
I know we will be going to court soon and so my question is this: When we go to court, will the judge set my support based on what he is making now (41K), or what he was making a month ago (71K)? Based on the 41K, I should get about 4-500 a month, the 71K will get 850 a month. And if it is set based on the 41K, can it get raised up later?

I have been working for my employer for 8 years 6 of those years as manager of a small retail business. He expanded and increased my responsiblities from 2 staff to 6, I asked for a raise for the added responsibilities and he has dismissed me with 8 weeks notice, which I have to work as he is not paying me severence. Also he knew I m going for surgery in January and I'm unable to work the full 8 weeks so that means he will get away with not paying for the full 8 weeks. I have the dismissal for asking for a raise in writing.
