I have been working for my employer for 8 years 6 of those years as manager of a small retail business. He expanded and increased my responsiblities from 2 staff to 6, I asked for a raise for the added responsibilities and he has dismissed me with 8 weeks notice, which I have to work as he is not paying me severence. Also he knew I m going for surgery in January and I'm unable to work the full 8 weeks so that means he will get away with not paying for the full 8 weeks. I have the dismissal for asking for a raise in writing.

You should contact the business agent of your union.... oh, I bet your not in one. Try contacting the department of labor, or a good labor attorney. I have NEVER heard of someone getting fired for asking for a raise.Sounds like you may have a case if that is the only reason. Good luck, with the job and your surgery. I wish you well.

In most places it's perfectly legal to fire someone for asking for a raise.
