Things have changed a lot over time. Many of us baby sat away from home as young as 12. It is not so safe today, for the baby, the sitter and the parent. If anything goes wrong, there are too many agencies, lawyers, and do-gooders (the village Hillary talks about) that think everyone's business is their business. So, if nothing ever goes wrong and the "village" doesn't complain it is OK. Problem is, who is to say nothing can happen and no one will stick their nose in.
I would be concerned. Call the local children's agency -no names!!!- and ask. You might check with a lawyer.
What a shame things have come to this.

Uh....no. However, untrained baby sitters can give their parents the legal liability blues should something tragic happen to the children the babysitter is hired to care for.

It's best to bone up and certify w/ American Red Cross in First Aid and CPR. As well as other classes babysitters should certify in.

A certified baby sitter also can demand (and get) more $$$ for their services.

I believe the legal age is 12 or 13. I did my 1st babysitting at 14.

To my knowledge, there is no 'legal age' for babysitting. When I was 12, I used to babysit for my neighbors 5 year old.

For the most part, its a judgement call on the parents part on whether a child is of proper age/maturity to handle the obligation of babysitting for their child.

It's only considered illegal if the baby-sitter did something inappropriately...
still the parents would have to file charges to take legal action for it to be considered illegal.

hmmm......Its not illegal for sure., but whether you should do it or not; that depends on your maturity u know..! i think it could work better the way around too if the 3 year old is mature enough!! lol
