I own a small taxicab business in West Des Moines, Iowa. The actual city of Des Moines will not permit me to pick up my customers there. ( two separate cities) Des Moines itself only has one cab company ( disguised as 2 as to give the false perception of competition.) Unfortunately Des Moines is where all the big hotels are located as well as the Airport & Greyhound. The city has a ridiculous amount of rules and regulations pertaining to taxicabs. (over 35 pages) Starting with: I need to own at least 10 cabs with 8 out on the road at all time. Each cab has to be insured for 1.5 million each. (by the way, New York; taxicab capital of the world only requires $80,000 insurance policy per cab) I have to operate a 24/7 staffed facility. The local TV Media did a story on my situation. When they asked a few of the city council members why?, they actually said on film "Why shouldn't we protect our cab company from any competition?" The traffic control member said on film " We have designed this to keep fly by night cab companies out of Des Moines." Well, I'm not a fly by night Cab Company!! Over 90% of my business comes from the telephone, 24 hours a day/ seven days a week. My cabs are new and my drivers and I are English speaking/ hard working Americans. Is there any hope? I have done the research; many have stood in front of city council. None have tried fighting the city council in a court room. Des Moines has not had another taxicab company since the 1940's!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE HELP! This is an unconstitutional infringement of economic liberty, the right for individuals to earn an honest living without arbitrary government interference! Thanks!

Why do prison bars always run vertically and never in another direction, such as horizontally or diagonally? If you don't know why, then any (seriously-meant) theories would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

I made a huge mistake almost 2 years ago. I had fallen on hard times and I had gotten my electric shut off so I cashed some checks with someone else's name. I had to keep my babies warm and I wasn't making enough money at the job i was working. My kid's father decided to take off and smoke crack and left me alone with so many bills. i know I have made the mistake but I am not a bad person. I've never been in trouble before until now. How do they expect people not to keep commiting crimes when they can't even get a job. I will never do anything stupid again but what can i do without a job. Any suggestions? Thank you!

my boyfriend has a 15 month old daughter which he has full custody over because she was taken away from the mother in the hospital. His daughter had drugs in her system when she was born and was immediately taken from the mother and went home with him (he was not in a relationship with the mother due to the drugs). After this the mother then signed over her rights to my boyrfriend. If me and my boyfriend were to get married and i wanted to adopt his daughter would the mother have any say so in me adopting the child since she signed rights over to him and also lost her through social services?

Ok here's the thing: the girl in my story finds a dead body in the school bathroom. When she runs out of the bathroom, she bumps into her friend, A. So she and A get to a phone and call the police and report the body. Here's my questions:
1. Do the police only question the girl who found the body? or do they question her along with A?
2. What are the questions the police are suppossed to ask the girl (and possibly A)?
BTW, the girl who died had died from getting her throat cut and she choked on her own blood.
This is NOT a real story! It's comepletely made up! ok?
Thanks!

Please consider this a real possibility:
2008. Another terrorist attack, who knows if it was really a terrorist this time. Disastrous enough for Bush to declare Martial Law. The military replace the police, the economy is on hold. Anyone who speaks against this is considered a terrorist and thrown in a camp or prison without court (now legal). The internet in the US becomes censored and monitored, as it already is in China. New laws become very restrictive in the name of "safety". In a short period of time, we've become a totalitarian country.

Military men and women - would you continue to go along with this, if and when you realized it was not for the benefit of the people? Would you risk prison in the name of what's right? Would you apprehend your mother for questioning our government's motives?

If you think my question is off the wall in any way, please read Bush's plan for martial law. But be sure to read the amendments on the bottom!

I have a strong case to sue a my employer for discrimination. Everything looks to my favour, and honestly speaking my employer is wanting to reconcile this w/out involving an attorney once they heard what steps I took. They are trying their best fo keep me from speaking with the executives, in fear of losing their jobs. But, I have made it clear, one way or another - I will speak with the executives, to disclose what is happening behind their backs. I have recieved calls from HR to resolve this matter, but, I am standing adament on my part, coz it comes down to morals, values, and ethics. And, my termination was injustice, the "stated" reason for my termination will be proven to be a pretext discrimination based on a prtoected category and is not the "real" reason for termination. HR, Accounting manager, and the Controller, all "3" failed on their parts in this matter, and once I do get a meeting scheduled with the executives, they will be at a verge of losing their jobs...no doubt.

I have one of the Top 50 lawfirm on my side, to proceed with this. They have been on the O'Reily Factor on TV and are well known around. I am honestly, thinking what steps should I do, should I keep the money if I will win or should I reconcile with my company, and request a formal apology in writing, as well have the 3 mentioned people to be terminated on the failure part to perform their duties that their position calls out. What do you all say?

at work today one of my employees was behind me with another male employee. I was setting the alarm to leave for the night, and i could see his reflection in the window~ he was looking at my butt with this big stupid grin on his face. The other employee told him to knock it off, and that's when i turned around. It didnt bother me, or offend me. I personally think this kid is a jerk anyway, but i was just wondering.... is it sexual harassment??

The Supreme Court recently decided that a mother acted in violation of her daughter's rights when she listened to the phone conversation. In effect, the Court implied that a parent has no right to interfere in the private life of his or her child, regardless of the parent's motives.

What implications might this decision have on child rearing practices in the United States? How might it affect discipline in schoools and other institutions?

I'm having some trouble with one of the questions in my history, if anyone could be of any assistance, I would highly appreciate it. Thanks in advance, if you answer.

Under the new Constitution, the ability to make laws was...
(A.) Given mostly to the states.
(B.) Awarded to the state and federal governments.
(C.) Shared by the state and federal governments.
(D.) Given directly to all Americans.

Please, if you can answer this, please do. If you have the right answer, I'll immediately give you the points.

I know someone who fell at work & hurt their knee, The supervisor sent her to get x-rays and to be seen by a Dr. that works for their company Dr. put her on light duty with some restrictions for three days. Then a day later she got suspended for smoking next to company property(they have a non-smoking policy), Everyone smokes in thier cars or tries not to be seen. It sounds like she got suspended for a bogus reason because they put her on light duty and workmans comp. has to pay for her bills. Plus it is a male dominated workplace! Is this grounds for a lawsuite or what should She do? Any advise would be highly appreaciated!
