I made a huge mistake almost 2 years ago. I had fallen on hard times and I had gotten my electric shut off so I cashed some checks with someone else's name. I had to keep my babies warm and I wasn't making enough money at the job i was working. My kid's father decided to take off and smoke crack and left me alone with so many bills. i know I have made the mistake but I am not a bad person. I've never been in trouble before until now. How do they expect people not to keep commiting crimes when they can't even get a job. I will never do anything stupid again but what can i do without a job. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Explain the felony as you've just done to us. If you just check "Yes" for the "Have you ever been convicted of a felony?" question, the employer will think the worst.

Most applications give a space to explain. DON'T USE IT.
Add it as an Addendum at the end of your application. That way they get through reading your entire application first.

If it is the type of job where you just hand in your resume, submit the addendum a few days after you have submitted your resume, but before the company would have done a background check on the most promising candidates. Again, your resume will then be considered in whole, without undue prejudice, and the company will appreciate your candor in disclosing the felony before they find out about it through other means.

Well, in a situation like yours you will need a reputable person to vouch for your good behaviour when you apply for a job. Try a low paying job first and then you can move to a higher pay job when you have proven yourself. Just like when you make a loan you need somekind of a collateral.

Look into getting the record expunged.

Also, write a detailed letter explaining your history (preferably with a statement from a doctor or counselor) and attach it to your applications.

In Canada, the John Howard Society and the Elizabeth Fry Society help ex-offenders get settled and get jobs. I don't know where you live, but if you're American I'll bet there are similar organizations near you. Ask your probation officer, if you have one, or just phone the probation office and ask them.

Good luck, and God bless.

(b) Waited tables contained in the early lunch afternoon for $one hundred and fifty per week (c) worked at a pizza position the different day for $8/hr, earning $one hundred and sixty per week. for 3 years, I worked myself to the bone, earning about $30,000 a three hundred and sixty 5 days. After a lengthy time period, i changed into waiting to safeguard yet another paper direction (which jumped my pay as a lot as $four hundred per week). I grew to change into manager of the pizza institution after 3 years, earning $500 per week and that i provide up waiting tables. After 3 years, i changed into earning about $40 8,000 a three hundred and sixty 5 days. once i changed into earning solid funds, i began filing my resumes to businesses. a million organization out of 20 would not require historic past assessments. After 5 months of interviewing, I landed a job that paid $40,000. I had to put up to a drug try, yet no historic past verify. I probable went by one hundred jobs till i got here across that one. yet they're accessible. do no longer BLAME THE gadget. locate jobs that do not require historic past assessments and artwork your palms to the bone till you'd be promoted from interior of. artwork flat out and do not WHINE. momentary labor businesses, contractors, and warehouse jobs infrequently require historic past assessments. you are able to do IT. i'm residing evidence.
