Ive been watching the chasers war on everything dvd audio commentaries and they keep pointing out that its illeagal for them to use hidden cameras/microphones and also to use footage of people without their permission.
Why do these laws apply to the chaser boys but shows like today tonight/ a current affair can do them all?

Well for one thing the Chaser people are doing it for entertainment while Today Tonight and A Current Affair are doing it to present news, that changes a lot of things.
There also are cases of stories being suppressed by legal threats, Today Tonight and A Current Affair can usually brush them aside by being actual news but the Chaser probably wouldn't be able to since if someone didn't want footage of them used it probably wouldn't be for a public purpose.
