3 part question:
1. How long does a copyright last?
2. How many times can a copyright be renewed?
3. Who can renew a copyright? Does it have to be the original author, or can relatives do it?

can we shut it off since they did not pay us for three months and they couldn't get the water in there name since they owe the water company. They have no plans of paying, and we are going to toss them out legal way but don't want to give them a 30day notice thats one more month free. WTF! We have told them, no they don't have kids, two adult females in thirty and forty's. We have bounced checks that now we have check fees from our bank for. Is it ok to shut off our utilities even though they wont leave yet. Plus it cost us money to pay to have papers drawn up just to kick them out. So now we are farther behind. We happened to be nice, she had a sob story how she was on family leave cus of her dad, but found out that was a lie and she doesn't have a job. Scums We got screwed over and know it. But don't want to loose more money.

So I'm 18 and all of my friends are 17, about less than or a little more than a year younger than me. They want me to buy them a hotel room but I have been really iffy about it. What could happen to me if I bought them the hotel room and they got caught for being too loud and caught with alcohol or something like that? I'm not going to do this for them because I don't feel like having a criminal record, but what would have happened if I did? Thanks.

On saturday night i had a party in my house, things got out of hand and a fight broke out. The police were called and i made a statement. Is it possible for me to retract this statement? I was very drunk at the time of giving it and i feel that i muddled things up, missed out information and basically i felt the police were leading me to say things. After they left i called and said i wanted to take it back and the officer i gave the statement too told me i can't. Is this true, i live in Scotland.

Ok, so I finally was able to pick up a copy of my incident/arrest report from my DUI charge. Well there is an issue of time and how long it took them to breath test me. I wholeheartedly disagree with the time on my report, is this something they would have to prove and is there records kept of actual dispatch times and times of arrival to the scene? This is all going on with a very small town law enforcement agency and I dont belive they have been as accurate and thorough as they should be. The report even reads like they gave me my blood alcohol test on site at the scene and this did not happen, it did not occur until sometime later at the actual police station. Is that an issue in itself? The big issue is that i feel like they were over their 2 hours in getting my test but the arrest report has what I belive to be an inaccurate time. yeah i know, get a lawyer...I'm just trying to gather all the info i can to see if its worth it first. Thanks in advance for any helpful answers.

My old landlord is trying to force me to pay electric bills that I am not responsible for. I am refusing to pay. She may try to take me to court over it. If she does take me to court, will I have to pay any of the court fees or will that be her responsibility? It would be a small claims case, I wouldn't hire a lawyer or anything. Just defend myself.

I have a question regarding copyrights and how they apply to a product that is changed to a new use. As an example, could you take a Coke bottle and make it in to a lamp or flowerpot(or anything else for that matter(leaving the bottle and label intact) and resell it without Coca-Cola suing you?

You and your family are in danger (they may have a weapon of some kind) Would it be acceptable to use a weapon such as a knife etc on them?

Personally I wouldn't stop to see if they had a weapon I would hit them hard in the head with my hatchet or machete.

I live in New York City with my fiance and she was going to work one morning last week. She got to the train station and a police officer stopped her out of the huge amount of people about to get on the train. They have a little desk area where they check people's bags at random to fight against terrorism. The police officer took her to the table where there were some othe officers as well. He was being flirtatious with her and said in a flirtatious way "we're looking for weapons of mass destruction". He opened her bag and really didn't look inside and they were all just staring at her breast. My Fiance felt really unconfortable and just left really quick and got on the train. I think this is dispicable for people in law enforcement to be abusing their power like this. Do you think we should file a complaint and sue? Do you think she has a valid case? Thank You.

I am becoming close with a girl who is almost 16 and I am over 18. Her mother disapproves of her being with me, but we have no desire to have sex. We are just very, very close. What power does her mother have over me after my friend turns 16? I am trying to somehow get her mother to understand as well since I already said sex is NOT an issue. I just am afraid of the legal consequences that I can face. Again, I AM NOT trying to challenge the system or her mother. Two other mothers of her friends understand this ordeal and they both love me. Can someone please help me??

There's a woman who comes into a restaurant and my sister says this woman is almost ALWAYS mean to her.
This customer does innopriate things like barge into the kitchen to ask for something [at an unreasonable amount of time, like 5 min. later, asking for something]
I think my sister feels abused verbally because this customer has also humiliated her in front of other customers yelling at her waving her check around wanting to pay [even tho she didn't have to wait long]--it's just that obviously other guests come in for dinner.
The owners told her she didn't have to wait on this rude woman, that the bartender could instead. However what if there's no one else there but her? does she have to wait on the b*tch, legally?
does she have a right to yell BACK at the loose cannon?

Santa Fe Independent School District v. Jane Doe (2000)
Issue: School Prayer
Bottom Line:Public schools Cannot Sponsor Religious Activity

Background
A Texas school district allowed a student "chaplain," who had been elected by fellow students, to lead a prayer over the public address system before home football games. Several students and their parents anonymously sued the school district, claiming a violation of what's known as the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment, which states that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

Ruling
The Supreme Court ruled that the school district's policy regarding prayer was unconstitutional. Although led by students, the prayers were still a school-sponsored activity, the Court said, and they were coercive because they placed students in the position of having to participate in a religious ceremony.

"The Constitution demands that schools not force on
