You and your family are in danger (they may have a weapon of some kind) Would it be acceptable to use a weapon such as a knife etc on them?

Personally I wouldn't stop to see if they had a weapon I would hit them hard in the head with my hatchet or machete.

1/. Knock them out (if possible)
2/. Carry them outside.
3/. Now, kick the ******* living daylights out of them
4/. Go back inside your house and go back to bed.

When police knock on your door asking if you heard anything............simply answer no :-)

I agree that people have to defend their home and family. ... Some states have the "make my day" law. That nickname is taken from the Clint Eastwood movies...Simply put, if someone is on your property, or in your house (the letter of the law varies from place to place), you can use deadly force to stop the intruder's progress. Some states say that you can only use 'like force'. That basically means that if they are carrying a knife, you can't use a gun on them because that would give you unfair advantage.
Some states are still stuck on 'rights' and a person can be charged for harming or killing an intruder. In my opinion, that's just insane - the intruder is living outside the law (they are breaking the law) and thus have given up certain rights. That means, they cannot be considered a victim if their law-breaking results in their own injury or death. ... Again, that's just my opinion.
So to answer your question, in my opinion, it would be acceptable to use a weapon. I am a shoot them dead - no wounding them. No chance for reprisal or further fight. ... But fact is, you need to know the laws of your state and/or municipality to know what you are dealing with.
I sincerely hope and pray that I have to deal with a home or personal defense issue. But I'd kill an intruder to stop them and to insure my family is safe.

I was told once (By a policeman!), that if anyone broke into his house, he would stab them and wipe his prints off the knife before planting their prints on the knife.

Now, I'm all for upholding law and order. And I feel it's my civil duty to adhere to that policeman's advice. So, if it ever happens, and I don't get away with it, I'll just give the CCTV tape to my solicitor, and plead ignorance through being mis-informed by an officer of the law.

While it is generally acceptable to use force against someone who enters your home aginst your will, it is not always deemed accepatable to use deadly force, in all parts of the country. There are cases that have gone both ways. The decision, which is not always based on any clear legal principles, is based on the degree to which an intruder made one fear for one's safety. Self-defense is not automaticly considered to be an excuse.

Are you in England or America? in England we do not have the right to really defend ourselves, you can only use reasonable force, otherwise it would be you in court on a much more serious charge than the burglar, how I wish that we had the right to defend our family and property as they do in America, maybe these crooks would not be so eager to take a chance.
Chris.

The law says within reasonable force, but with a knife or gun pointing at me i'd probably piss in my pants and let them have their own way, im too old now to be a king saviour. Mind you, if they touched my wife i'd piss on them and be king saviour. Serious though how do you rate reasonable force, too much and you may be jailed, the laws an idiot.

People always have the right to use force to defend themselvs if they think they are in danger, regardless of what law has or has not been passed.
What we don't want is yahoos (good name choice) running around with concealed weapons that they use after traffic accidents or simple arguments.
Brazil has very "liberal" (the true use of the word) concealed gun laws, and more people die in shootouts following traffic accidents than from the accidents themselves.

I think you should be able to protect yourself and your family, but then the good old laws say that you can't. But the crooks are allowed to carry weapons into your house and use them. I would kill anyone who harmed my children, as its a parents job to do so. All animals or all kinds naturally protect their young. That should be the same for humans.

Using force to protect your family inside the house is allowable by law in Texas...Shoot first, then ask questions.

the CORRECT answer depends entirely on where you live. While many states have enacted "shoot-first" laws, still others have not and you assume legal liability for such actions.
