this is only a small portion of the story...! does anyone know why one bounced check (90$) results in a visit to the sherriff's to be patted down, finger printed, (smthing about criminal investigation) and thrown in front of a judge only to be slapped with a $400+ fine, (or jail time!)..plus your name in the local newspaper announcing to all your crime........this is not right. pls help this poor mom in iowa. she is a solid member of the community, belongs to the local church there, works at a daycare center, is held in high regard by all who know her, and whose only real crime here is a miscalculation while balancing her checkbook.. this all occured the very day she was notified the check was NSF.

Instead of the criminals getting paid for being in jail they should have to make sacrifices and do their duties for free!! So we in Society ( non-criminals and tax payers) can have all of our Health Care for free!! paid by the government. Wouldn't that be a nice change???

I am trying to determine if I want/need a trademark to protect a design that I have. First, it is a saying logo. For example, let's say I use the word HELLO but instead of the O I use a peace sign. I intend to take this hello logo and make it into a pendant and to put it on a T shirt. I can trademark it through my state, but how does that protect me and how does it work? Does it mean no one else in the state can use my logo or sell it without my permission? The design I have is locally/state based so I don't care if people in another state want to knock it off. I just wouldn't want people in my state to have access to this design unless it goes through me. Also, I had a second design that was getting made into a custom iron-on. I was supposed to get a quote only for the minimum of 100 pcs. The guy made the design and is know telling me he will sell it to others if I don't get 1000. Can I do the TM since the state back dates if the design has not been registered by anyone?

the mormon sect Church of Christ of Latter Saints in Colorado encourages relatives to marry one another causing severe genetic defects with their offsprings. it's really gross, even though there's plenty of scientific evidence to support that marrying relatives can cause genetic defects, the people living inside that mormon sect continue to marry amongst themselves. it's really gross.

Both from the psychological and legal standpoints. Are there books out there that deal with this? Other sites where there have been discussions of people falsely imprisoned and eventually released? Etc.

I certainly think there should be a way to do this. But I have read a lot on these boards about concerns for privacy and government intrusion without a sufficient showing of "wrongdoing" by the person being "spied on." I have also read about how the government shouldn't be intruding into the doctor's office, and interfering in the doctor-patient relationship, in contexts such as abortion.

So what do you think? I personally think that there are circumstances where protecting the victim of an alleged rape would justify this, even in (some) circumstances where the person was not yet convicted of a crime. Just as there are circumstances where protecting against terrorism (Patriot Act) and protecting the unborn (abortion) may mean that some degree of intrusion is necessary.

Are you an absolutist on this? Do you oppose one, but favor another, type of "domestic surveillance?" Why? Or is it just a matter of safeguards in each case - that the devil's in the details? Seems similar.

Most 16 year olds these days are a lot more knowledgable than I ever was at that age and yet we tend to treat them as though they dont know anything.
At 16 my daughter was more than capable of making a descion to have sex (or not) with her boyfriend than I did. She has a mature head on her shoulders and is well aware of the dangers that life hold.
Teenagers have a lot more information at their fingertips and more help is available for them in all types of situation.

An internal FBI audit has found that the bureau potentially violated the law or agency rules more than 1,000 times while collecting data about domestic phone calls, e-mails and financial transactions in recent years, far more than was documented in a Justice Department report in March that ignited bipartisan congressional criticism.

The new audit covers just 10 percent of the bureau's national security investigations since 2002, and so the mistakes in the FBI's domestic surveillance efforts probably number several thousand, bureau officials said in interviews. The earlier report found 22 violations in a much smaller sampling

I live in the state of Montana and my ex husband lives in Washington state. Four years ago we had a court battle over two children (twins) now both age 10 years. Anyway, he got residential custody and I only got summer time and holidays which adds up to nothing. He won because he had more money as neither of us are unfit. Now things have changed. He is remarried and does not allow me to meet his wife although he has met my husband many times. I don't know this stranger who is watching my children along with her three kids. Also, he just recently got a DWI and sat 2 weeks in jail, and is getting in all kinds of trouble with the law as far as traffic and all. Also he has a warrant for his arrest here in Montana for failure to appear on a misdemeanor harrasment charge. Is there any way possible for me to re-gain residential custody without the high cost of a lawyer? I really need some good advice. Thank you. The kids live mostly in Washington and here in Montana in the summer.

I couldn't believe what I heard yesterday, I was listening to the radio about these paedophiles being castrated and the interviewer asked a man his opinion about this, the man replied it was a violation against human rights. What about the violation against human rights when the dirty men who do these evil acts to a child! The child doesn't aks for this. I say castration to all paedophiles , it shouldn't be voluntary either.
