Depends on what you need to establish it for.
Generally, Utility bill, postage addressed to you, bank account.
If it is for something legal (like in-state tuition, voting, or bond waiver on arrest) you'll need a driver's license or passport or a copy of a "declaration of domicile" filed with the court.

the receipts establish residency, you do not need to have a contract or a lease agreement.
Any oral agreement made between you and the landlord constitutes a binding contract from the moment that you are paying him.
Bills of electricity, water etc could also help!

If your name is not on the lease, you have no legal standing for the apartment or house. If you have receipts/cancelled checks you paid towards an apartment you try to sue the person on the lease for the amount if it was a loan to them.

Get some mail in your name. You might can use the deposit slips, but it usually helps if you have a bill in your name at that address or even a bank statement.

One year of residence. A bill with your name and address. You can talk to your landlord and have him verify your tenant history.
