Having a debate with someone. they say you aren't considered an adult in Tennessee until age 21 - as in parents still responsible for you, etc. I thought the national standard was 18. Anyone got any info on this? Factual things you can point me to?

In Mary Pipher's book "Reviving Ophelia" she suggests that, along with classes for women so they can protect themselves, we ought to have classes that teach people that rape and attack and assault, etc are wrong. (In Rhode Island there was a study done - both male and female participants- and they came out that 87% of the kids thought that, at one point or another, rape was an appropriate action. There's still a common feeling that, if it happened, she/he got what they deserved. Sad.) My mom and I were talking, and she suggested that they give it as a required class at the high school. For both boys and girls. So, I've only ever heard of this brought up by Mary Pipher. Why haven't I heard of this idea before? Are there people who don't want this to happen, and that's why it hasn't been talked about? So, in Sociology we talked about the idea that maybe the economy determines a lot of our life. so, are there people who get paid, in one way or another, when someone is attacked?

It happened in another state and there are a lot of people here that I feel should know what happened. As far as I know, I am one of the only people who know about this as of now... and people are wondering where this individual is.... I've been told not to talk about it. If I should make it known, how would I do so without anyone knowing it was me who spread the news?

My husband left me in October of last year with a promise that we would file our taxes jointly and split the money evenly, and then he filed without me and claimed one of my children. I transferred half of the money from his account to my bank account through paypal without him knowing of course. I know he will bring charges against me when he finds out what I done, anyone have an idea of what I might be facing?

it's very disturbing to me when I hear of judges handing down light sentences to serious child molesters ( case in point:Judge Cashman in Vermont) with no concern for the victim's rights. Are we becoming a nation so focused on the "rights" of the criminal that we have lost our moral compass to do the right thing for those who are truly victims?

Like how many years would it take? I was thinking I would go to school there, and then get a job there and then if I like it live there. I would want to be a dual citizen so I can go back and forth as I choose.

If you've bought a house, you are aware of being offered title insurance to protect your interest in the property should someone at a later date file a lien, dispute right-of-ways, easements, mineral rights, etc. I don't see how title insurance has a place. Retroactive claims are invalid after a sales contract has been agreed to by the seller and buyer. The Supreme court upheld this stating that Article I, Section 10, Clause I (the Contract Clause) of the Constitution states a contract of sale cannot be invalidated, even if illegally secured. Looking at the Yazoo land scandal and the U.S. Supreme Court case Fletcher v. Peck (which resulted in the rulling that the sales were binding contracts and could not be retroactively invalidated); how is title insurance is even needed? Granted, there may be small issues where the retroactive transfer of real property don't come into play but how big of an issue can this be? Are buyers not protected by the contract clause and precedence?

** We are particularly looking for an answer from someone who knows consumer laws in Vancouver, BC Canada. However, all answers are appreciated. **

We closed our business and was looking for someone to buy the assets in the business. Before we were about to tear down the assets from a location and move them to a storage with intention to sell them later, we got a buyer who put down a 20% deposit on the assets and set a date to close the sale all written and signed. He also agreed to pay the rent of the location where the assets where located. The close date passes and the buyer still doesn't pay us for unrelated reasons. One week after the agreed close date, the buyer backs out of the deal. He requested that we pay him back the rent money and the deposit, but we refused. We feel that we held off our plans to remove the assets and sell them outside the location which caused us personal damages (ie truck, et. Do we need to pay this person back any of the money?
