Those two black men that beat up that white lady around Halloween got probation ... my punishment would have been prison. Same would be true for a hate crime perpetrated by whites or any other ethnic group.

First let's make sure the crime does fit the punishment. Next let's do this by degree of offense.

If they killed someone without cause. They should be killed.

If they did severe physical harm to the victim the criminals insurance company should pay for his expenses. If the criminal has no insurance but the victim does then the victim should health insurance should cover it. If the victim has no health insurance then the government needs to have that included in the criminals cost for imprisonment. So that the insurance will cover the victim.

If damage was done to property of the victim the criminal must pay him restitution. That would only be in the case if the victim did not have insurance to cover any damages not covered by the policy. In cases where he victim has no coverage for property and the criminal has property that is equivalent to any damage incurred, the victim can claim either monetary or collateral compensation for that. If the criminal has no assets the victim should be compensated by his own insurance company. If the victim has no insurance, the government should include the victim's loss as part of the cost of imprisonment and compensate the victim by monetary payment.

The cost of imprisonment is very high already and I have added additional responsibilities to government. But we are talking about hate crimes and how to punish them.

I think it should be a more severe version of the penalty for the underlying crime.

I must also respond to: "Since I do not believe in "hate crimes" I say nothing. In fact the people that promote such laws should be hung on the corner and allowed to rot off the rope" from above.

Essentially you are saying two things:
1)You don't believe there should be stiffer penalty based on the motivation behind the crime. ~ That makes sense to me; I might not agree but it is rational, and you are certainly entitled to advocate for what you believe, as you do here.
2)You believe that there SHOULD be a penalty for other people "promoting" what they believe in. ~ So basically you would choose to punish people who disagree with you before you choose to punish people who are motivated by hate. Hmm.

Usually hate crimes are committed by uneducated, ignorant individuals who don't like to study. These perpetrators would rather die than study. Therefore, right punishment would be to confine them to a university and force them to study and get master's or PHD in sociology or psychology depending on severity of their crimes. That'll teach them a lesson and at the same time transform them from ignorant hate mongers to an educated, indiscriminating scholars.

Hate crime is the new PC way of addressing violent crimes against people. Depending on the crime, say 1st degree murder I would recommend either life without parole or death by hanging.
Rape - 20 years to life
Child rape - 25 years to life
Child murder & rape - death
Serial murder - death
Arson - 20 - 50 years
Arson resulting in death(s) - Life without parole

Racial slur or epithet - community Service

hate crime comes from the opinions that were brain washed into you by the enviroment in which you chose .Or your family showed you racism.I would suggest education ,knowlede of knowing each others ansestors .Playing the roles as they had to live .Therapy of why they have so much hate .I hate it as well that we all cant be as one and probably never will ,the best we can do is for the ones that aren't the haters teach are children .

"Do unto others as they have done to you". If the crime involves poor young children or they have beaten up old people don't waste the tax payers money, put them in a room and let the families have 5 minutes with them

I HATE the term "hate crime" really what crime aginst someone isent a hate crime!? usually the term Hate Crime is just ripping someone off for useing their freedom of speech! Like Rhodney King! I hate him! he accused those police of a hate crime when he refused to stop speeding, get out of his car and was driveing drunk. Hate Crime usually really means "A cheap way to make someones crime sound worse and get them in more trouble"

Require the convict to take melanin for a period and then require them to live someplace outside of their comfort zone, preferably in a small southern town.
