Details first, then the question.
Details: the couple sued their direct tv or whatever company because they charged them for porn that they never ordered. the port was ordered on sept 11 when the couple were watching the memorials for that day. the couple ended up fighting among each other as to who ordered it. finally they sued for a million dollar for "emotional upset"

so my question is, how could someone sue for that great of an amount. does emotional upset cost a million dollars? who is anyone to tell how "emotionally upset they were"?
can they be lying just for that?

i hear a lot of suites for millions of dollars for stuff like that. is there something i'm missing?

thanks

I own a small workshop. Last Monday, I had to leave early and only the workers were at the workshop. They are 2 workers ,and very honest. I trust them very much.
They sold things with the amount of 250 pounds on Monday. When the time came to close up, one of them put the money in the drawer of the desk , and they closed the doors and left.
The next morning, I came and asked for the money, it was gone. They looked for it every where , but they couldn't find it.There was no sign for any break in or anything. As I said , they didn't steal it. But what I think has happened is that they left the place for 3 or 4 minutes, which they often do, and someone got the money from the drawer.I decided to split the amount. I would pay 100. The one who had the money would pay 100. The other one would pay 50.But this last one refused . So I said o.k but I told him that if he ever leaves the place again, I would fire him. He got so upset and left. U think I was right or wrong ?wt should I have done ?

After asking many questions on this site, many people respond with: Drugs are illegal, therefore they are bad. If they are bad, people who do them are bad. Hence, lets put drug users in jail with the rest of the bad people.

If you oppose drug use simply because it is "illegal" then you support slavery. After all, failing to return a runaway slave in early America was illegal. If you were alive during alcohol prohibition, would you stop drinking because it's illegal?
Anyone who says that drugs are bad and has no justification or facts to back it up, and just exclaims that they are illegal should go back to school. Learn to THINK.

Or people will say that drugs are bad for you, so they should be illegal. So to these people, stop watching TV, driving cars, drinking booze, and eating any food other than rice and beans. Or you are a hypocrite.

Or you might say they're addictive, and drug laws stop addiction. Wrong. Try imposing your morality on Muslims, they'll kill you.

My grandfather died last year in January and I was named in his will. I (and my sisters) am willed a good amount of money. The executor is my aunt (his daughter) and she tells us that she legally can take up to 21 years to give us our money. She keeps putting us all off when we ask her what is going on with the will. So I have some questions..
.
1. Can I get a copy of his will and how so?
2. What is Florida law concerning payouts of a will?
3. Does she have a time limit to pay beneficiaries?
4. Can my aunt dis-inheiret us if she wants to?

I have tried to find information on this, but am having a lot of trouble. I don't understand any legal jargon.

Thank you for your help

years ago, I heard a guy on the radio say he had just come back from a long visit to Germany. He noticed in everyone's home, the bathrooms, i.e. toilets, where always located right by the front door. He asked a friend why and was told that there is a law in Germany that says if anyone comes to your door and asks you to use the WC, you have to let them in. So they build their homes accordingly. Can someone confirm this is true? My niece just went to Germany so I asked her to check on this, but of course she couldn't be bothered. I asked a coworker who has friends in Germany, and they too have noticed the convenience located by the front door, but did not know about any laws. This is a mystery that has bugged me for years. Anyone out there know anything about this?

I heard that if someone owes you money & if you take them to small claims court, if you win the case & judge grants you what you sued for that doesn't neccessary mean you'll actually get paid by the person you sued? In other words if they don't have the money of if they just refuse to pay you not even the court can make them to?

The charges were for domestic violence and theres zero tolerance in ca but in my case there was lack of sufficent evidence and the district attorney refused the case. my lawyer says he did work and kept the 3000$ dollers he had asked as a down payment. can i get any of it back or will i lose more if i try, it just doesnt seem fair since he didnt do anything.

A property developer recently dug up, for connection to services, a private road which runs outside a friends house. The private road does not belong to the property develope or the friend. The developer has reinstated the part of the road which was dug up to highway standards but the friend doesn't like the fact that the road is now different colours and wants the property developer to retarmac the whole road. is this what should be expected of the property developer.

my husband got a great job out of state. he's on probation and he dropped a dirty UA recently. his PO said she would not grant him a travel pass to go to his job, but he could move to the state. Well, he got denied to move from the state we would move to. Is there anything we can do so he can go. We really need this for our family. He's not a bad person, he just messed up. We want to move so that we can better our family and get away from the problems.
