I live in the UK (im British) and am a few months into the process of applying for a K1 visa to marry my girlfriend (American) in the United states. The worry is that I have been to prison. I got 12 months for arson and did 3 months inside. This dosnt fall under a serious crime bracket but i'm still worried. Does anybody have any experience or knowledge in this matter? Thanks.

I know that one can settle permaneneltly in Sweden once he is married to a Swedish. But after how many years one gets the nationality. And are there any other ways to apply for permanent residency over there besides marriage?
I have heard that living there as a student for 6 years makes one eligible to apply for paermanent residency. How far is that true?

I don't think it is ok to be in the U.S. illegally! I came in the front door from Canada. What makes illegals think they can come in the back door and get special treatment. They don't belong here in the U.S.! They come in through my window uninvited and expect me to feed them and their children and to pay them on top of that? We are fresh out of handouts!! If I can become American legally, so can they. By the way, they should learn the language before they apply! Maybe our politicians need a lesson on this. I'm tired of pressing 1 for English, arn't you?

if lets say, a family overseas entered the US LEGALLY with a visa. They planned to stay here with their visa, so technically they are legal. but their visa expired and they are waiting for their papers to go through.

They pay their taxes, they have an ITIN number which they use for ID, don't get any kind of benefit from the government, their kids are paid for school. they learned the language better than the average American. They try not to be a burden to the government, and don't have any criminal record whatsoever.

would you consider them illegal immigrants?

then when they come over here they see that life in America is no joke and in many ways can be harder than Mexican life,, so they immediatley think white people are purposley making thier life harder

people in Mexico an El salvador etc, really believe that nothiing can be harder than what they experience becuase they are in those counries branded "third world' but to thier surprise life isn't always what it seems and thier perceptions about life in America are way off and they are ill-equipped to handle it

So they connect this feeling of a more complicated and demading life to some sort of conspiracy gringos secretly have to keep the Latinos down,,,,just go to a La Raza meeting and you will see what I mean

fact is they don't want to admit that the majority of legal Americans work hard for what they get and have to live in a more complicated society than South of the border they want to see the world in black and white,,Us vs Them mentality

like they say they want,, this in thier mind becuase they deserve it, Do they really believe they can keep up the American quality of life,

You know ,, the type of life they moved out of Mexico for, will they blame white people again when they turn the US into a Latin American headache,,,,what will they do different here, so far they are just transforming are country into thier old one

will Canada be next on thier radar

this fact just confuses me, I mean what do they want, Do they want to be real Americans or third world trash all they have to do is to let Americans help them assimilate,,be respectful, learn English, learn how to build buisness, educate your kids etc,

don't they see thier non progression

http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/ar-11.pdf

The above is a form issued by the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to ALL aliens present. The alien must register any of the following changes: (1) address, (2) employment, (3) school.

ALL aliens, including children, are required to submit the form to DHS within ten (10) days of the change. Written upon the form is a warning that the alien who fails to comply is subject to deportation.
THIS FORM DHS almost always ignored. DHS does not even maintain an accurate database for legal and illegal aliens. DHS never even asks an immigrant if he has always complied with the AR-11 requirement. The applicant's information is almost NEVER cross-checked with the DHS database. (exceptions apply). DHS officials actually have a list of prior addresses on form G-325, Biography, submitted with AN application. Why do you believe DHS is so slacK AND ignores these laws? Can DHS change? Will Congress act?
