I do not agree with any of these answers except the one above has some little truth in it except you can not apply directly for citizenship and visas are not greencards and non-immigrant visas can not get you green cards as you sign a waiver that you will not stay in the US (some are just being funny/sarcastic), check out uscis.gov.
there are several ways to get a greencard/permanent reseidency, but they may not be easy and you need to qualify for them.
-through family - parents, siblings, spouse
-through investment - compouny you start, money you invest
-through emploment - job you get in the US
-through the diversity lottery
-you can apply for yourself if you have some special talent like a scientist or something (not for citzenship though like stated above)
-through some other means such as described in the link i have attached

You can get a travel VISA (requiring you to leave after you're done visiting)
You can get an education VISA (I think you have to apply to a school here and be accepted)
You can get a work VISA (meaning you have to have an American company sponsoring you, you basically have to have a job here before you apply)
You can get a fiance VISA (this is what my wife got, you have to have an American willing to apply on your behalf and marry you)
Or you can apply for political assylum or come in as an official refuge.
There is a way to apply directly for citizenship, but you usually have to be an astronaut, world-renowned scientist or artist, political figure or something extraordinary like that.
