Yes, you can marry in India, and your marriage will be considered legal in the US.
If your course in the US starts in June 2007, then you can't have already applied for a student visa; you cannot apply more than 90 days before classes begin.
As for an immigrant visa, since she is living in India at present, she may be able to file the petition for you in New Delhi or Mumbai. If so, that will save a lot of time. She should ask them if she can do that, and if she can, she should do it very quickly since the process of obtaining the immigrant visa can take several months. Here, for your information and hers, is the process:

Yes. If your marriage takes place in India, it will be recognized by Indian law, not US law.
If you marry in the US, it will be recognized by US law, not Indian.
I had to marry my wife twice (not a bad deal, really), once in Manila and once in San Diego. Now we're married in both countries.
I might be wrong, but I think if you marry in India and try to come to the US as husband and wife, you'll actually have to come in on a fiance visa since your status isn't recognized here. If you marry and have children in India, it might be different, because then you're immigrating with an established family.
If you marry someone in the US military, you can get into a special program for immigration, just don't let the military handle it. They're slow. I requested several of my applications be handled through the Department of Defense, and I never heard from them again. They didn't even acknowledge my requests.
Go through the US Embassy. They'll take good care of you.

About a year after the marriage, if all goes well, you should get your K-3 visa. But that is a rough estimate. I have heard of it taking as little as 3 months and as long as 8 years (or never). Fiance visas are more popular because you can work here while they are processing the paperwork (which can take as long as 3 years.)

Yes you can marry. Geting a visa is up to the USA Embassy in your area.
Go to the Embassy and ask questions and be ready to pay.
