The owners of a quarry in far East El Paso pleaded guilty Monday to conspiracy to harbor immigrants for financial gain, concluding the first criminal prosecution of a business for employing undocumented immigrants in the Western District of Texas in seven or eight years, officials with the U.S. Attorney's office said.
Brothers Romulado Soto, 53, of Clint, and Jose Cruz Soto, 41, of far East El Paso County, both U.S. citizens, are scheduled to be sentenced in February. They face up to 10 years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines. Their lawyer could not be reached.

In April, El Paso sheriff's deputies conducted a welfare check at Soto Rock Hauling, a quarry in the desert near Gas Line Road that produces rocks for rock walls. They found 25 undocumented immigrants working there.

Officers were tipped off by an undocumented driver they had stopped at a traffic checkpoint.

"He described how the owners of the quarry would contract with smugglers to bring aliens from Tornillo ... to the quarry, where the Soto brothers would pay the smuggling debts. The alien stated they then were required to work off such debt," court documents described. "While at the quarry, the aliens had lived in cardboard boxes, old trailers, sleeper boxes of old semi-tractors, and they had no running water, sanitation facilities or electricity. "

Prosecutors have said the case had elements of human trafficking. Even though the quarry had no gate or fence, it was remote and "there was no way for the aliens to easily leave without a ride being arranged for them," court documents showed.

According to the plea agreement filed Monday, the Soto brothers said they had knowingly hired undocumented immigrants for about five years

Here we are spending monies to keep immigrants out when New Orleans need both. ITS A CRYING shame that New Orleans is still in ruines and the government spends more monies and attention to a WALL. For those that spend their energies in useless arogance of immigrant bashing, send help to your fellow AMERICAN IN NEED IN NEW ORLEANS. It would be nice to have the minute man put up a wall around a house instead of just standing there wasting their time looking for immigrants.

I used to be against all you said about the issue but now I get you more since my fellows go there trying to find easy money. Some of them got not good intentions as you said, they just want EASY MONEY and they don't care if they get it committing crimes.
I don't know why they go to US streets to demand to make legal something ILLEGAL and specially insulting to a country where they are living. No one asked them to cross the border.

If someone calls you racist next time, let me tell you a this story. Sometimes I cross border LEGALLY with my tourist visa and I go shopping and in stores I find Mexicans, I don't know if they are legal or not , I don't care but they are more racist than real US people. They treat you like crap as they were superior to you. You know they speak spanish (clearly, OBVIOUSLY) and they pretend they don't

here`s the situation, we just filed her i-751 forms about a month ago, but didn`t realize the length of time it would take to process.
We both reside in japan for the time being, but we both travel back and forth for business in the u.s., but now that her greencard is expired and we are waiting for a response from uscis, we aren`t sure if she`ll get any forms before our next business trip back. Is there any other options that we can take? That will allow her to enter the u.s. while waiting for a response.

I mean they are all saying that the U.S. is racist. I think that the Mexican government is controlling their people by saying that the U.S. is a racist country. Since the people aint gonna get any good out of Texas or anything, the Mexican government just want to expand and get more land. Have you every heard of Zapatistas? I think they are against the U.S. and mostly the Mexican governments. I don't think that the Mexican people are mean people, i think it is the Mexican government that is evil. That is why the Mexican government is trying to be corrupt so that all the Mexicans would go to the U.S. to seek some opportunities since Mexico isn't giving any opportunities to its people. And then the Mexican government would get California, texas and all that land back.

illegal immmigrants are honest hard working people,,,they deserve thier human rights becuase they are great people,,blah blah

Ok

is there any single demographic that is across the board honest and good-willed and hard-working,,,ever

who started the rumor that illegals where these ultra-holy hard-working people, with ethics and morals and wrm goodness and

I remember when the stereotype was just the opposite,,,

even the illegals themselves are beleiving this , hence the arrogance

2006-11-18 13:57:22 · 16 answers · asked by hoopy d 1

I see a lot of arguments for illegals saying that they come for a better life and whatever other nice reason you can think of.
How sure are you that all illegals are just out for a better life? Explain for me then the large numbers of heinous criminals who are illegals, or how about those idiots in the protest marches shouting for a foreign country (Mexico) and denying/insulting the country they are in (USA)? Is this your vision of "illegals getting a better life"?

If you (like me) know that not all illegals are good people, how would you weed out the nice people (who I hope are the ones you want to support) from the scum? Are you psychic?, Have some new gadget for catching criminals that you'd want to sell?

If you are incapable of knowing who among the illegals is good and who is evil, are you still willing to risk allowing all illegals to remain and/or keep the borders open? Why/Why Not?

I mean since most of the illegal immigrants live in Mexico, they could go back and get their papers quickly. Then the U.S. would have to handle the terrorists, the drug dealers, etc. And if there are any rebellions about illegal immigration against America, we could just take away the rebellious people's citizenship, or their possibilities of becoming a citizen.

I was born in London England in the 50's. I moved away in the 90's to the south of England as there is more space down there. I am not sad or lonely just very annoyed that we are the only country taking is asylum seekers. I am not racist as when in the 70's in London more races where coming here. In fact my husbands father was polish, but he did fight fot this country in world war 11. I have seen the uprising of the National Front in London and have seen many riots etc between the white and black people which was very disturbing and that is why I moved south for my daughters. But letting in 500 people a day on this very small island which it is is ludicous. As one person said they should be let into the first safe country they come to. But know they got to travel over europe and get a boat, lorry, car, or anything else to hide in and come here. Why? Because we are too soft. I want my children and grandchildren to have the opportunity to work but there will be no jobs soon.

This is more simpilar instead of having racial wars or anything violent like that. Instead, the U.S. can give them an opportunity to go back to their country and come back legally. Then the U.S. just raises the taxes for them depending on how long they were in the U.S. legally. How does that sound without any violence or harm?
