I agree with Wiool...does being an illegal immigrant not make you a person? I was born in America but my Grandparents and great grandparents are immigrants from Germany. Does that mean they didn't deserve to be here? Every American here had a relative MIGRATE to America. MOST of those were illegal. I married someone who was an illegal immigrant. Him and his family are some of the most inspirational and amazing people I've ever met. My husband is one of the most hard working and dedicated people I know. He has earned his residency far more than a lot of "Americans" do. He cherishes things that a lot of Americans do not..things that we so easily take for granted.
Bottom line...I think that we should be looking at the person. Not their residency status. Is this person a good man? Does he treat your daughter right? And most importantly are they happy? Should be the questions you are asking. Just because some strives to have the best life that they can have doesn't make them inhuman or less of a person.
Congratulations to your daughter. I hope that you can accept her fiance with an open heart and an open mind. I know it's cliche...but don't judge a book by it's cover.

Not a question for immigration, this is a question of love and people's feelings. There is an old saying "one should follow what the heart tells you", how can this be tied to being illegal? Perhaps what you are asking is more the question of "how should people that are in love" react to these sort things. Also, another question is how should the relatives of these people react and learn to accept what the son or daughter via their feelings have expressed!!

Well, this question is very close to my heart because my 23 year old daughter is in love with a 34 year old illegal immigrant man from Honduras who was deported last year from Canada, where we live. This is a "no future" situation for my daughter. This man can never provide any kind of a secure, stable life for my daughter because of the fact that, having been deported, he can NEVER come to this country legally without a great deal of paperwork and financial resources, which my daughter does not have and of course, nor does he. My daughter is waiting for this man to return, again illegally, as he vowed he would do and I hate him for causing this turmoil in my daughter's life. She is wasting the best years of her life, waiting for him. She has not heard from him now for the past 4 months and she is worried sick that something has happened to him on the way back here. I, on the other hand, am hoping that something terminal has happened to him and that we will never hear from him again! My worst nightmare is that he makes it back here and then they have a child. My daughter would have to be the main support for him and any children they have because he can not work here legally and she does not earn enough money to support him and any children, let alone barely support herself! In Canada, illegal immigrants have a much harder time finding employers willing to hire them illegally than they obviously do in the USA. No, I do not wish this situation on my daughter and my future grandchildren. I hope he has died this time on his way back to Canada so that eventually my daughter can get on with her life and hopefully meet a person who she can have a decent future with. I don't think I am a mean or evil person. This man was supporting himself here previously by selling crack and even though my daughter does not do drugs, she forgave him for this, claiming that he has no choice because of where he comes from and how poor his family is. GIVE ME A BREAK! He is a criminal and a user of innocent people! I hope we never hear from him again!

I'm with Pamela on this one.I would first make sure his intentions were truly sincere and see what type of character he has.And if all that checks out then they would have my blessing and I would try and help them out as best as I could with the wedding preparations.I never believed that someone should be based on anything but their character and actions. And know this personally based on the fact that my parents almost had a hearattack when I brought home my first bf and they saw he was white. They had the mentality that all white guys just used latina girls as bootycalls and that they drank and owned a bunch of guns.Though the gun part was true he was of a good moral character and once they saw that they accepted him.like the saying goes judge not lest you wish to be judged.

For all you people who answered so negatively about their son/daughter being with an immigrant,, that just goes to show how selfish you are. Your children should be your life. You must have no love for them,,,,,or anyone else for that matter. But I guess if you dont love yourself, you cant love anyone else.....how sad,, the world this day and age. You weird people need someone to love you I guess.
Maybe if you American people loved your own,, your children wouldnt go looking for it somewhere else.!!!!!!!!!

If my daughter said "Dad, I'm marrying a crimalien," I would say "Why are you calling me dad?" No seriously, I would not show up to the wedding, wouldn't pay for it, and when he divorced my daughter after getting his citizenship so he could bring his real family into the country I would call INS.

What would you do if your daughter wanted to marry a white boy that did not cheat on his girl friend, beat his girl friend, or get his girl friend to give him money? You would say no, because most illegals come from cultures that actually look up to and respect men that cheat on their wives, beat their wives and girl friends, and take the money of their wives and girl friends.

I would let them...if it was a legitimate marriage and they were marrying for the correct reason. Not everyone marries for papers. I know many illegals married to US Citizens and could have received papers years ago and never filed. It is cheaper for them to pay $2,000 for someone to cross them illegally everytime they want to come than to deal with the lengthly and costly process by INS.

Advise against it and suggest the person get legal first. Think of the pain they would be causing not only themselves but their future children if the illegal immigrant were deported down line.
