Citizens polled think GW Bush is a bad president and well over 70% of the population polled believe Congress is not doing its job and they are unhappy with the job that's being done. Why do we demand jail time and pennance from a football player but we accept the bad actions of our leaders? What's wrong with this picture?

Here's my opinion -- I care about all my fellow Americans regardless of political differences . However , I'm troubled by what many of you are posting on this site . Specifically the fact that some of you folks are so damn busy kicking the other guy and arguing about meaningless or lesser issues , while we are about to enter September . Why is that relevant ? -- Well , because many of you have forgotten or just refuse to listen , that the terrorists have continually promised lately , that there's a major attack coming on our country. . . . and soon too . September would be logical , but it could happen in October or whenever . But the fact remains that the terrorists don't usually come-out with many video warnings unless an attack is imminent . The State Department , Homeland Security and others have also warned us . . . rather ambiguously , but warned nevertheless .

Now doncha think that maybe we should be discussing ways to help each other just in case this does happen ?

I brought a radar detector from Sam's Club other day. It will alert me if there is a police car near by. I guess I can drive above speed limit if I have a radar detector to let me know the presence of police car and slow down when required. What happens if police find radar detector in a car if they pull you out for any reason?

My conviction is that a President is elected to lead. I believe a President should stick to his ideals and should not be swayed by popular opinion. Congress and the Senate is there to represent the people, a President is elected to be a leader and do what he believes is right.

Any thoughts?

Some info:
• $45.5 Billion spent this year and $30.1 billion of that was incarceration alone.
• The total cost of drug abuse in the US is estimated at $143.4 billion… that includes indirect costs.
• Drug use has increased in every way measurable since prohibition.
• 20% of all drug traffic is interrupted. 75% interruption would be needed to begin effectiveness.
• The average markup for legal drugs, both pharm and recreational (tobacco, alcohol, etc) is 10-15%. The average markup for illegal drugs is 1000% reflecting the so-called “risk premium”.
• The illegal drug trade, by any standard, is a hugely profitable and successful business venture. Impossible to estimate, profits are believed to be in the hundreds of billions, annually.
• Illegal drugs and drug use are theorized to be responsible for a permanent underclass.
• Prohibition, in theory, creates a premium as reflected in price, creating a market for cheaper and usually more dangerous and destructive drugs like Meth, and Crack.

Here in Mexico, I was watching the news. I saw that Elvira Arellano met with President Felipe Calderon about the state of immigration affairs in the USA.

My question is, why didn't she use this valuable time with a busy man to promote change in Mexico: How can we improve our own country so nobody has to risk death and deportation travelling illegally to another country? How can we create more jobs and provide more education to our future generations? Why don't we prevent people from travelling through the desert to the USA rather than giving them pamphlets on how to make the journey?

and we are not talking a one day or one week romp into some banana republic here, we are talking since 2003, we have been fighting a war and spending hundreds of billions of dollars.

Should this be allowed to go on without a formal declaration of war?

In fact, why has war not been declared?, isnt that the real problem here...that if Iraq was dire enough for us to fight a war then war would have been declared. The fact that no war has been declared speaks volumes. We need to change this in the future to prevent further situations like this. Sometimes wars have to be fought, but when they do, the case must be so clear, that war can be declared in open debate by those empowered to do so.

I hav notice that there are many people that are asking about how they can send soldiers items, but no one ask is there a way that normal people can talk to soldiers? I think if they they had someone they could talk to maybe they would have something else to think about beside the war and have a better day.

Like it or not the US sets the standards for many things around the world. How would the US look like before the International community if they deported 12 million people? Wouldn't our credibility and moral standing decrease. I think other people in the world would feel justified do awful things on grounds that "If the Americans did it why can't we" like deport refugees, curtail human rights and things like that. What do you think?

I have reason to suspect that my EX hubby has used my children's information to attain credit. We are still on good terms dispite the divorce..etc. I haven't confronted him about this yet. I won't put up w/ this though. I just don't think that anyone else would have their information. And the ones who would have it would never damage their future like that. So, my question to you is...

Would you file charges against your EX if you were in this situation?

Should I just go straight to the police and file a report (as if I didn't suspect him)? Or, should I ask him about it first?
