I guess the serve as a warning to the main three:

"Listen to the people or they'll do desperate things like vote BNP"

As others have pointed out the BNP are anti-Islamic, homophobic and racist. Their policies are based on discredited racial theories which hark back to the Italian and German Nazi parties. Many of their elected officials are convicted lawbreakers. They would not, in any circumstances, represent a 'balanced view'.

And the main three political parties are not, "a mish mash of centre politics". There has been a post-war consensus on many political issues, other than of course the Thatcher years - and what a great success for this country that was.

And as for one of the other contributors here, sure, I'm really going to pay attention to someone whose moniker is, "gays need medical attention" .

Vote Independent, get away from party politics. It's ruining our country. The three main parties are so a like that you can't tell the difference. The only other political parties are either "extreme" right or left wing, or single issued parties, and would be frightening if they got into power. Independents would not so easily be able to form cliques on all issues, and therefore would refresh our political processes with democracy (this is as simple as I could put it without wanting to write an essay on the subject, but I am sure all of you get the jist of where I am going with this, even if you don't agree)

Politics is the necessary evil in the world, corrupt , it matters not what label it wears , BNP centre parties , republicans, etc they all promise to do the best by you, whilst doing the best by themselves. We are all human beings, so what we need is an humane party to lead the way, not sure that a party, who historically was responsible for mass killing and lets not forget the many years of after effects from, should ever be considered again. But lets not forget that same responsibility could be assigned to many parties throughout the era's. Evil necessary. WHEN?

I'm American, and while my knowledge of British politics is very limited, I have to say that there are fringe elements on both the left and the right, and I suppose the BNP represents the right-wing fringe.

The BNP seems like a white nationalist group to me. I mean hell, they signed the New Orleans protocol, which was an agreement between Neo-Nazi groups to work to together.

It is a good thing if it gees the others up and perhaps take some of the more sensible BNP policies on board.

Not necessarily but we need an English supporting party instead of the Europhile parties that we have selling us to Brussels.

I'm not sure an anti-semitic, Islamophobic, and homophobic minor party represents a "balanced view".

"Balanced view" and "BNP" in the same sentence... spot the mistake.
