and this surprises you??? I think that the benchmarks are stupid to begin with. There is an interview with PM Maliki that really says it all.....the US SHOULD NOT DICTATE GOVERNMENT POLICY in Iraq. How long did it take before America had enough of King George and start the revolution? The Iraqi people are now and will always be the ones who need to make the decisions that will effect THEIR lives and their country as a whole. The continued US presence in the region is not going to bring democracy any quicker to them. They have the foundations..and if they have the willpower, the Iraqi people will take care of those who are working against them. I'm sure during our own Revolution that we had those here that still supported King George and did not want to see change. The Iraqi people will do the same for themselves if we just let them do it. Any directives coming from what appears to be "occupiers" will never succeed...and it that point we set ourselves up for failure!

Yet, when Bush had the TV appearance in January to discuss the surge with America, didn't he mention that the Iraq govt. was going to be held to these strict benchmarks or the US would begin to pull out?

So why is Bush backing off his earlier comments now and claiming the benchmarks his Administration set, as being impossible to achieve?

Can we get ANY consistency from Bush & Co. in their comments?

The less we talk of the so-called Bush benchmark the better as the whole world knows the benchmark used to invade the country in the first place!
