I was reading a fictional story today, completely unrelated to the war in Iraq. Actually, the story takes place in a completely fictional land and time. Anyway, a character in the story half jokingly asked his commanding officer if "dead" soldiers get paid - the characters were lost and thought dead for over a year. Regardless of the fictional nature of the story, it made me very curious and brought up a bunch of questions. Especially wondering if our own MIA/POW soldiers get paid for time they're unaccounted for?

So here are my questions.

If captured or lost and thought dead either in war time, training or general mission and then a soldier is released, found or returns does the soldier get back pay?

Do surviving family members get any kind of pay for MIA/POWS?

If a body isn't recovered are you automatically considered MIA?

How do death benefits work in these cases?

Lastly, what is active duty? Does it pertain to war time only? What other duty is there?

Thanks

I am currently going to school for Criminal Justice at the University of Phoenix. In the long run I want to become a probation officer. I know I can start working after I get my associates for the detention or the corrections department and when I get my bachelors I can try for Probation. But the downside is I have been a stay at home mom for a couple years. I do not have work experiance. With the day care costs it would cost me money to go to work with no degree. Do they hire people with no work history? We are also filling bankruptcy which I know they look down on. But we went through a hard 6 months and we got ourselves in a hole. I know there are no excuses. But I will take any suggestions :D Thank you

Everybody that i have met that supports John Kerry is ugly. Is it that everybody that supports John Kerry is ugly?-Offensive?

My father just received a form for proof of claim again NovaStar Inc., which is under a class action lawsuit. Is it mandatory to submit the information we are being asked for or can we ignore it if we do not want to be part of it?

I don't think any sort of impeachment proceedings would be completed in time to do any good, and I don't think the Senate would approve it anyway.

But if Congress remains silent on the ways the Bush administration has misused it powers and trampled the Constitution, they aren't they complicitly saying that it was OK for him to do so?

Do you think we need an impeachment proceeding, if for no other reason than to make it clear that the Bush/Cheney attack on the Consitutional balance of powers will not be accepted or tolerated? Even if politically, you can't win?

I met my fiance while living in Greece(he is Tanzanian and i am English). We lived togeather there for 2 years. I am now back home in England while he is home in Tanzania-i have been over 4 times in the past year. I am going over again in September and he is applying then for a UK visa. We have a problem though i think--during his time in Greece, he spent 3 months in prison on cannabis charges(wrong place, wrong time). That was 2 years ago.

I got pulled over for improper passing and I didn't have my license on me. I thought if you drove without a license that meant you'd get suspended...but the cops told me you don't have to have the card with you. I tried to switch seats with my husband because he had a liscense and I didn't and the cop saw. He told me I made him look like an asshole even though I told him why I did that. I didn't lie to the cop anytime during the investigation and neither did my husband...we didn't try to stop him from searching our car either. He charged both of us with obstructing an officer and me also with improper passing? I thought you only got charged with obstuction if you lied to tried to stop them from doing their job. We didn't do that. Why are we being charged with this crime? Is it fair?

Man, you liberals ***** about everything President Bush does and you don't even have your facts straight!
We went into Iraq because the weapons inspectors were denied access to certain areas. They did this time after time and they were given warning after warning. We saw satellite photos of trucks taking something out of the country.
The Democrats saw the same intel President Bush did. They voted for the war as well. Yes, including that filthy rotten liar Kerry who changed his story midstream.
Bush never claimed Saddam had anything to do with 9/11.
And we have stolen 0 gallons of oil.
And no, President Bush it not the reason gas is so high. Thank your democratic buddies for not allowing us to build more refineries, and then gas would be more readily available. There’s plenty of cheap gas out there, but it’s the refining that causes a large jump in price.
Man, get your facts straight before you spread your hate

A quote from the New York Times:

"But while many whites embrace Mr. Obama's melting pot background, it remains profoundly unsettling for some blacks who argue that he is distant from the struggles and cultural identities of most black Americans. The black columnist Stanley Crouch has said, ''When black Americans refer to Obama as 'one of us,' I do not know what they are talking about.''

Ms. Dickerson echoed that sentiment.

''I've got nothing but love for the brother, but we don't have anything in common,'' said Ms. Dickerson, who wrote recently about Mr. Obama in Salon, the online magazine. ''His father was African. His mother was a white woman. He grew up with white grandparents.

''Now, I'm willing to adopt him,'' Ms. Dickerson continued. ''He married black. He acts black. But there's a lot of distance between black Africans and African-Americans.''
