HOUSTON — A state lawmaker who opposed a bill giving Texans stronger right to defend themselves with deadly force pulled a gun and shot a man he says was trying to steal copper wiring from a construction site, police said Monday.

Rep. Borris Miles told police he was fixing a leak on the second floor of the Houston house he's building Sunday night when he heard a noise downstairs and saw two men trying to steal the copper. After Miles confronted the pair, one of the men threw a pocketknife at him, Houston Police spokesman Victor Senties.

Miles, a former law enforcement officer, shot the man in the left leg, police said. The wounded suspect was being treated at a Houston hospital. Police were trying to identify the other suspect.

Charges of aggravated robbery are pending against the wounded suspect, Senties said.

Police said Miles, who is in his freshman term, is licensed to carry a concealed weapon. No charges have been filed against Miles, Senties said.

Talk about accountability in government! This guy took bribes leading to all the tainted food and drugs that China exports we've all been hearing about. So they executed him. Somebody should tell the Chinese how Capitalism works. You gotta grease the wheels a little sometimes.

I think we should give this new plan some time to see if it can succeed. Pulling out now seems to me to be a disastrous idea. I think there are some signs that the "surge" is working (at least in Baghdad). Sure, the Iraqi government is a mess, but what else could we reasonably expect? We created this mess - are we now going to pack up and say "you fix it" to these people? I think the reputation of the US is shot, and that every third rate power is going to see that we're vulnerable. That doesn't make for a safer world.

Muslim woman has been arrested for allegedly listening to music while sitting as a juror in a murder trial.
It is alleged she concealed an MP3 player and earphones beneath a traditional hijab.
The woman,was part of a murder trial jury at Blackfriars Crown Court. The man on trial was later jailed for life for murdering his wife.
So there you have it.A muslim can do many things whilst wearing a hijab.ie try to escape a failed bomb attack.
Why can they get away with wearing one.What utter contempt for the UK hides behind the mask of religious doctrine?
This woman has shown NO RESPECT WHATSOEVER for the victim's family.She's being held in contemt of court and I hope they throw the book at her.With stories like this,how can we ever be a 'united' society.It will never happen.I can't see a normally-dressed juror even thinking about walking into a court of law wearing an ipod??!! But just try challenging one of these 'women',and its race hate harassment.

My 2 daughter's were threatened yesterday by a man in his early twenties. It was because I HAD to go to court as a witness because I saw him assualt my next door neighbour with a broom handle. He had a 8 month prison sentance. He called my 7 year old a little C---. Also told her that he was going to beat her mother up (Me).

He threatened to hit my 13 year old, she is very timid and only the size of a 8 year old. He also said that after he hit her he would do the same to her dad.

I am no longer under witness protection. I phoned and reported it to the police last night at 6.30pm. They haven't been out yet or even returned my calls, I have phoned 3 times. Would I be in my rights to complain about this? My children are scared out of their witts.

I didn't have ab choice about going to Court and it's not my children's fault.

Michael Moore's movie showed actual and that is "actual" footage..it was not doctored, no pun intended, and it showed America's trusted politicians blatantly lying about healthcare in Canada and other countries..why are they not charged or confronted for lying to the public..why do these people keep getting elected. I am just tired of bringing my passport everywhere i go..name it, at the club, restaurant or wherever where ID is a requirement.. because i have to show them that i am legal to drink. LOL! So how what are the requirement to get a Florida State ID? And can i get it on that very day that i apply for it?I came here in the US under K1(fiance visa). I already got married. I applied for AOS and EAD..do i need to bring something with me? I have my SSN but my name is undeer my maiden name since i applied for it before i got married. After waiting 6 months for a reply from the Arkansas State Police, I emailed them asking what the deal was with my CHL. The reply I got was, "It looks like you will need to complete 2 more fingerprint cards. Please contact your instructor to get those cards and send them to me." First of all I thought whenever they needed additional information from you they sent their request via snail mail. When additional fingerprint cards are needed I thought they sent the cards with their request rather than me having to contact them first and providing my own fingerprint cards. My main question is for Arkansas CHL holders who have had to provide additional fingerprint cards. How long did it take to get your CHL after they recieved your cards. Please include how long you have had your CHL. All I'm getting from the ASP is open-ended answers with no clarification.

I asked some questions on global warming recently. It's not good enough that I'm buying bamboo floors, or that I don't drive an SUV, or that I use fluorescent lightbulbs, or that I regulate the temperature in my home, or that I recycle. WHY? Because I still drive a vechicle, I still use my AC, I'm not a vegan and don't grow my own veggies.
Why do you feel I'm not doing ANYTHING just because I'm not doing EVERYTHING?? It doesn't make sense. This is the BIGGEST reason I'm not part of the democratic party, you ignore progress unless you're getting exactly what you want, no compromises. You completely ignore the fact that we've been doing a whole lot to clean up our act since the 70's, YES that's THIRTY years. Bet your college professors never bothered to tell you that, did they? Why can't it be good enough that a reasonable person is taking reasonable measures to cut down on waste and prevent it in the future? It's like you're going out of your way to make people dislike you...
