How is tapping non-english, International calls between people on the FBI watch list illegal? I hate how CNN made it seem like the US Gov't is listening on you're conversation with Grandma. Opinions.

You're right. They're not covered by FISA - FISA's definitions section specifically excludes cross border calls where the target of the investigation is not the US person. FISA is a limiting not an enabling statute, thus the fact that something isn't covered means that, unless some other law prohibits it, which no law does, then it's legal. They're also not "domestic" calls thus the "spying" is not "domestic spying."

The NY Times has a right to be opposed to it but (1) it is not illegal under present law and (2) it is not "domestic spying."

Libs: like it, don't like it, try to get the practice stopped, explain to us why you don't like it and maybe we'll agree with you, but STOP lying about it.

Let see....

They didn't just tap international, non-english phone calls from terror suspects. They taped millions...

All they had to do was get a warrant which was easily gotten and could be gotten after the fact in an emergency

Once again Bush tried to circumnavigate the system and ended up causing more trouble than he needed for himself.

Procedures are set up for a reason. Bush does not have the authority (and arguably the intellect) to bypass these procedures

That is the point liberals don't seem to understand.
If I am talking internationally to bin laden on my phone I expect the gentle tapping at my door from the FBI.
They are not wiretapping people's phone calls inside to inside the US.

Again their main concern is to protect the rights of those who are out to kill them.

Anyone notice,

The media didn't mention that the Appeals Court overturned the lower court ruling, that the warrentless wire tapping was illegal.

When they made thier ruling this month.

So I guess it wasn't illegal after all.

CNN's jobs is to make sure this administration gets slammed on every single issue. Every one. Anyone that cannot see through this are dumber than rocks. Most people do not understand the process or the problem.

If they give the impression that your calls to Grandma are being tapped, then more uninformed people will jump on that anti-Bush bandwagon.

Although it seems that there isn't much room left on it these days.

I personally don't have a problem with wire tapping. I mean the only people who should feel invaded are people with something to hide. I am not running narcotics or smuggling immigrants or helping terrorists so I have nothing to fear about international wire taps

Its almost like the news agencies are trying to create news instead of reporting it.

Amen! The government is welcome to listen to my conversations, I could care less. As long as they are catching terrorists, it is fine with me!!

CNN seems to forget that a terrorist plot to blow up the Brooklyn bridge was thwarted!!
