It can be due to a gossip and you think it is true and you spread it through the internet and people believe.

The best way to deal with it is to ignore it, they'll get tired and go on to something or somebody else.

Just because many people believe something doesn't make it true.

No, no one needs to explain anything to anyone except in a Court of Law.

No, no one NEEDS to do anything about gossip. It's one's choice if they wish to acknowledge it and refute or confirm it.
