I love how you got them to admit that income tax doesn't pay for roads, and other services, property taxes do. I bet property taxes have to go up, because of INFLATION, which everyone seems to forget about.
Does your salary go up (percentage wise) just as much as your property taxes? How about your house value (which means all the other houses went up too). Why did a car feel expensive at $6000 in the 70's, but now a $60,000 car is expensive?
Average household income in the 70's was about $8,000/year. You think the average is $80,000 now? Even with dual incomes it's near $40,000 (and then you have no time for your kids).
Get it? YOU are getting poorer/working longer due in part to our imaginary money system. Keep pushing for healthcare for all, outsourcing everything, hiring undocumented illegals, or funding other countries wars, maybe you can live in the hole you dig, or you can try to change it.
People get the government they deserve.

YES YES YES! How do we as Americans stand for this!!?? The founding fathers would give us all a swift kick in the @ss for allowing this to happen! THIS is never what they intended for us. The government owns all property in reality, and I must pay them for the privilege to stay there. I must make 2 house payments. 1 to the bank and 1 to the government! And if I don't, the government can strip me of my possessions, garner my wages, and if they are not content with that, unceremoniously give me the boot and sell off MY house to collect what they deem "theirs." It sounds more like the Mafia to me.
And I am NOT against paying taxes. We all need to pay taxes for the services we enjoy, but they should be FAIR taxes that we can all understand and predict. Not arbitrary "charges and fees" that we can never tell what they're for or where the hell the money is going. I don't like having my pocket picked.
And on top of it all my property taxes have literally DOUBLED since we moved in 4 years ago, and we have yet to even make any changes to the house or property! When we bought it we were paying $830 in property tax and it has risen to $1685. And I have ANOTHER assessment coming up in the spring! OMG now I could just spit nails. What can we do about this???!!!

uh.... in the US, the government pretty much never takes your land for back taxes. In most places the lien stays on the property until someone pays it. I've seen properties in Allegheny county PA that had 40 years of delinquency on them. Rent? More like a fee for a service; usually property taxes support local schools.

Its so true . If you do not contribute to society by selling it something you make or charging people for a place to live you will lose all your land eventually . Being self sufficient is not enough anymore . You have to sustain others or perish . We are more socialized and inter connected then you ever imagined .
The local tax appraiser in every county is always increasing its take .
Which means you have to work that much harder to keep what you have .

as a citizen of a country, run by a government paying taxes is how it goes. only Anti-Americans (aka wannabe hippies) would question things that have been set in stone from the beginning of time.
If you want to live like Amish, you know where to go.
Do you want to dispute voting for people you don't know into office? if left up to people like you, America would be nuked and start all over again.

For those taxes you get roads, county services, ambulance, fire, street lights, schools, and other country services. When you sell the property you also get to keep the money minus a state doc stamp or two. You also get to write it off on your taxes, so it is deductible. Not quite so much communist now is it?
