I asked some questions on global warming recently. It's not good enough that I'm buying bamboo floors, or that I don't drive an SUV, or that I use fluorescent lightbulbs, or that I regulate the temperature in my home, or that I recycle. WHY? Because I still drive a vechicle, I still use my AC, I'm not a vegan and don't grow my own veggies.
Why do you feel I'm not doing ANYTHING just because I'm not doing EVERYTHING?? It doesn't make sense. This is the BIGGEST reason I'm not part of the democratic party, you ignore progress unless you're getting exactly what you want, no compromises. You completely ignore the fact that we've been doing a whole lot to clean up our act since the 70's, YES that's THIRTY years. Bet your college professors never bothered to tell you that, did they? Why can't it be good enough that a reasonable person is taking reasonable measures to cut down on waste and prevent it in the future? It's like you're going out of your way to make people dislike you...

Nobody said people couldn't do MORE, my point is simply that you wouldn't even recognize the efforts unless it was 110% of what you asked for.

I understand everyone is different and generalizations aren't the best idea, but those small groups of people are the ones making the noise, nobody else ever seems to have anything to say :(

I have to say, I've been pleasantly surprised with the responses here. If we had communication like this on all our topics, there might not be so much division in America right now. Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond!

You should remember that the crusade the left is on with regards to global warming very much resembels a religion. These people are convinced that some how the actions they take can control the climate(sort of like the ancient sun worshiping Aztecs) The GW crowd is basically the last refuge of the socialist. Notice all the solutions for the problem they have made up are geared to redistribute wealth, and grant greater control to unelected governmental bodies (international treaties, UN) Like any other religion the consiquences of not following the dogma are severe(if we don't do something now the oceans will raise up and flood the planet, the Earth will become a desert, hurricans will smite us, great storms will kill us, we will all starve) None of this is based in science or is provable, therefore it is all taken on faith, ergo a religion. Of course this follows liberal avoidence of science when ever it doesn't fit their agenda(alar on apples is bad, you can drink the stuff, DDT causes cancer, you can eat the stuff, Darwin is fact, absolutly no proof what so ever and the more evidence we collect the more absurd Darwin looks, AIDS is everyones problem, only if youe engage in anal intercourse or share needles with others to inject drugs are you in fact at risk) None of this matters to liberals who would rather fell good than deal with the facts. In fact the whole GW movement can be summed up as a feel good attempt to play God. Ignore these people, and ridicule them when they begin their sky is falling the Earth is doomed sermens. They are so much like the bearded dirty little nut job holding his sign on the street corner

I don't know why you think all liberals are like this. I'm a card-carrying bleeding-heart liberal and I love red meat and drive an SUV. I know lots of other liberals who do the same. It's great that you are environmentally conscious. I applaud that.
At the same time, is there anything wrong with new ideas on ways to preserve our earth for our kids?

Most likely, it is because libs aren't really a united front, they each have their own ideas about what is good for the world. I'm personally one of the ones that is angry at big-business for the millions of people who die every year due to their greed and our consumptive lifestyle and if you want to hear all about how each of us is responsible for a growing number of deaths in the third world each year, I'm the one to come to. Others are extremely concerned with the environment and think that we have to do EVERYTHING in order to make up for all of the damage we have already done (and they do have a point. Just because we try to be somewhat environmentally conscious does not mean that we're making it better, it just means we are making it worse less quickly than do others.)
But I say keep up the good work, and just keep doing everything you can to make your world a better place.
We can't simply say we're doing our best.
We have to succeed in doing what is necessary.

Good for you. Keep up the good work. Anyone asking you to go back to living in the stone-age is a crackpot. Look up what governor Bush did to Texas with his pro-corporate pollution stances. Houston now has worse air than LA. Now he's our President. Take a look at some of his handy-work.

Here's the deal. Anytime you lump "liberals think..." as in every single liberal has the exact thoughts in every way on every topic, it comes across as very generalized and unintelligent. I'm pretty liberal minded but I don't think the exact same as every other liberally minded person. Just like every single conservative minded person doesn't think exactly like every other one. It's stupid to lump people together into one category. Do you also say "Why is it that every single white person does..." - NO, b/c we're all different. Now, on to your point - It IS good enough that reasonable people take reasonable measures to cut down on waste, etc. That's AWESOME. For me, that's all I'm asking - we all just be reasonable and don't waste stuff. I don't preach about global warming, etc. I care about my daughter and her having a clean environment - plain and simple.
Signed,
A Liberal who thinks you ARE doing something worthy... :)

Thats why I don't even bother. My electric is including the rent in my building, so I crank the air up, leave lights on, wash on shirt, leave the fridge open when making dinner. I just don't care. I am not going to take away my conviences just because Al Gore and some other people with multi-million dollar homes who don't live a real life tell me to.
When Al Gore, or Madonna, or Bono, and other guilt-ridden celebrities give up their planes, and limos and million dollar homes, and start driving a normal 30k car, and have a 3 bedroom home, then I might listen. These hypocrites have the nerve to tell me how to live when they live like they do. I don't want hear about carbon credits, that is the dumbest thing ever. What, because you are rich you can pollute all you want as long as you pay a fee? Your private jets still hurt the environment. Give me a break, I will keep my AC on, I will still drive me gas car, no hybrid for me, (it's OK, I only drive a 325i, I would like a 5-series, just can't afford it yet).
When the hypocrites change, then I might.

Because it has nothing to do with the environment or global warming or the like. It has to do with control. The founder of the Sierra Club and the Founder of Greenpeace quit these organizations because of the socialist agenda they have adopted. The environmental movement is the home of socialism today. They want to eliminate private property rights and limit your ability to self determination. They are against liberty and the sanctity of human life by equating humans and animals.
