My 2 daughter's were threatened yesterday by a man in his early twenties. It was because I HAD to go to court as a witness because I saw him assualt my next door neighbour with a broom handle. He had a 8 month prison sentance. He called my 7 year old a little C---. Also told her that he was going to beat her mother up (Me).

He threatened to hit my 13 year old, she is very timid and only the size of a 8 year old. He also said that after he hit her he would do the same to her dad.

I am no longer under witness protection. I phoned and reported it to the police last night at 6.30pm. They haven't been out yet or even returned my calls, I have phoned 3 times. Would I be in my rights to complain about this? My children are scared out of their witts.

I didn't have ab choice about going to Court and it's not my children's fault.

As a Law Evforcement Officer I have a sworn duty to respond to all complaints, yours is obviously not only a valid complaint but critical, this mans behaviour according to what you have said is proven to be hostile and physical. Your complaint is that of harassment and a report should be done and warrants signed for his arrest 2 counts one on behalf of each of your children as thier mother you have the right to file a complaint because minors cannot do so for themselves, if you do not then he may continue his tirade until he snaps. Yes, complain, complain and keep complaining and when you call this time ask for the shift supervisor. Stand up for whats right get this hotheaded bloke back before the judge and give him more time to cool off. As to responce time it should be resonable, but sometimes things do get hectic, but someone should have called intermitttenly to tell you that it would be a few minutes, but should have came last night no matter what time. call now, and give them the times you called too someone was not doing their job.. so sorry.

It depends on what area you live in. Did something else happen that pulled officers out of your area for a prolonged time or if you live in a smaller town was there even anyone on duty? There are a lot of variables. By all means call and get to the bottom of it. Ultimately you and your husband have the same burden of protecting your family that anyone else in the world has. The police won't be your bodyguards and the courts don't sentence dirtbags harshly enough, as you of course have already witnessed.
Before you jump to the conclusion that nobody came because they just didn't care or want to, get the facts, there is probably more to it.

But as an officer myself, somebody terrorizing children would definitely get some free overtime out of me, if that is what it took. Good luck and be safe.

Yes!you would be in your rights to complain about this I know I would if someone threatened my children's lives in a New York, minute I would, this is also called making (Terrorist Threats) against you, your husband, and definitely your children.
Most police agencies have a civilian compliant review board that investigate complaints against police who do there job badly or are not doing there job,in your case they are not doing there job.
Well like you said it is not your fault because you witnessed and assault and you had to be a witness and this thug figures the best way to get at you is through your children a real man isn't he!
Listen also contact not the police per say but the detectives in charge or who initially handled this case and also for the record go to the police station you and your husband and file a police report on this latest incident or threat to your family because that is what it is a threat and if something happens and I hope it does not and it is on file with the police and they did not act on it before anything went down than you have a legal case against the police for not following up on this matter when you first reported it to them that way they have no excuse to say they were not aware of it because you made a police report cover all bases is what I am saying to you.
I mean you have called them three times, three times to many now go to the police station and make out a formal report and do not wait and make sure you get a copy of the report before leaving the station and do not loose it I know this because I was a military police in the service and they all work the same way when it comes to making a report.don't wait until this gets out of hand or is too late you and your husband are the adults so get moving on this NOW!!!!!
And last but not least don't wait for them to come out to you,you go to them and asking about how long it takes for police to come out to and incident they are suppose to come as soon as it is called in by the person (You) calling it in not at there leisure nice police department you have were ever you live I bet if it was one of there kids the whole department would be at the cops place in a heart beat!

If you have no response from the police who should have sent an officer...then contact the senior local law enforcement official with the agency.

If you get no action by doing this...call the district attorneys office and ask them for guidance.

Because the threat over the telephone is a misdemeanor (in my state) once the police complete a Incident/Offense Report...YOU would be required to go to the magistrates office to file a warrant of arrest.

Best wishes.

first off im sorry about what ur family is goin through and good for u for not backing down!! i would keep callin and making sure u document these calls and if they do nothing then take it to the local news station..im sure they would jump on the case of law enforcement officials not helping a family with children!! do whatever u have to do to protect ur family....is there any friends or relatives that u could send the children to stay with until this is straightened out? or anywhere u and ur husband could stay to avoid contact with the a**hole whose threatening u and ur family? u are definitly in ur rights to complain..that is totally unprofessional on the police departments part...u should go down there so they CANT ignore u..just dont get hysterical cuz they may arrest u if u get outta hand...good luck

i would contact the district attorney that handled the case you testified in. It may fall under intimidation of a witness, thats possibly a federal offense. If your local district attorney doesn't help, contact the state attorney general. There are ways they should be able to help you. keep an open eye, and stay safe.

Talking to your kids, regardless of what is said is covered by free speech. So in addressing him, inquire as to ability to be a quick healer or he really believes he has a bulletproof head.......you never know who you are talking to, do you. Next time you call the cops, you did SEE a gun, after the investigation you could have been mistaken.....

I am sure there is a Lieutenant in Charge or a Desk Sargent who is supervising those cops failing you. Ask to talk to the officer in charge.
